Job summary

Leavitt Machinery is seeking a Field Technician (Heavy Equipment or Automotive) in Kitimat, BC, to join our Service team onsite. You will diagnose, repair, and perform routine maintenance on a range of machinery, communicating with the Service Dispatcher and customers about job scope and requirements.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in heavy equipment or automotive repair, a Journeyperson ticket or Red Seal, and experience with hydraulics and electric engines.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of heavy equipment or automotive repair experience.
  • Provincial Heavy Duty or Automotive Journeyperson’s ticket or Red Seal Certification.
  • Experience with hydraulics and diagnosing electric engines is a strong asset.
  • Aerial platform and forklift experience is an asset.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites.
  • Ability to travel out of town to customer sites overnight.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnosing, repairing, and completing routine maintenance and safety inspections on a variety of machinery.
  • Communicating with the Service Dispatcher regarding ongoing jobs and timely task completion.
  • Discussing service job details with customers and clarifying repair requirements.
  • Coordinating with Parts department to order and prepare needed parts.
  • Maintaining work orders and warranty paperwork documentation.
  • Reporting safety incidents and adhering to safety policies.

Field Technician (Heavy Equipment or Automotive)

The Opportunity

Leavitt Machinery is looking for a mechanically inclined Field Technician (Heavy Equipment or Automotive Mechanic) to join our Service team in Kitimat, B.C. Reporting to the Service Manager, the Field Technician will be assigned to a variety of machinery repair tasks required by our loyal customers.

As a Field Technician your key responsibilities will include:

  • Diagnosing, repairing, and completing routine maintenance and safety inspections on a variety of material handling equipment and machinery
  • Maintaining effective and consistent communication with the Service Dispatcher regarding ongoing Service jobs, and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Discussing Service job details with customers and communicating a clear understanding of the job scope and repair requirements
  • Communicating with the Parts department via phone and email to ensure required parts are ordered, and preparing required parts before visiting job sites
  • Maintaining proper documentation where needed, including work order forms and warranty paperwork
  • Reporting any safety incidents promptly and adhering to all safety policies

Required Skills & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge, and competencies:

  • At least 5 years of heavy equipment or automotive repair experience in a related industry
  • Provincial Heavy Duty or Automotive Journeyperson’s ticket or a Relevant Red Seal Trade Certification
  • Experience with hydraulics and diagnosing and servicing electric engines is a strong asset
  • Previous aerial platform and lift truck experience an asset
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to partner effectively with external customers and internal stakeholders
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strong aptitude for learning and applying mechanical and technical concepts
  • Strong work ethic and a positive attitude
  • High school diploma
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites in the region is required
  • Ability to travel out of town to customer sites overnight is required

The base pay range for this role is: $50.57 to $56.18 per hour depending on experience.

This is an onsite role based in Kitimat, BC.
