Job summary

University of Toronto is seeking a Sessional Lecturer to lead a design studio section within the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design. You will develop and deliver course content, assign and assess work, and supervise teaching assistants under a course coordinator’s guidance.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Architecture with professional experience in design and a proven teaching record at undergraduate/graduate levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture or related design discipline with professional experience in design.
• Preferred: professional degree in architecture (Bachelor’s or Master’s) and teaching at undergraduate/graduate level.
• Experience in architectural practice and strong design portfolio will be evaluated.

Responsibilities

• Lead a design studio section under the direction of a course coordinator.
• Prepare and deliver course content in a design studio setting.
• Develop and administer assignments; provide regular feedback and grading.
• Manage TA supervision and day-to-day TA activities.
• Handle course materials, tests, exams, and grade submission per policy.

Course Description: The chosen candidate(s) will lead a design studio section under the direction of a course coordinator. Normal duties may include the preparation and delivery of course content in a design studio setting; the development and administration of assignments; providing students with regular feedback on their work in the studio setting; the marking and grading of student work and the submission of grades to appropriate University officials in accordance with policy; the maintenance of reasonable hours of student contact outside of scheduled contact hours; and the supervision of the day-to-day work of any Teaching Assistants assigned to the course. There is no expectation of or requirement for research or administrative service.

Class Schedule: TBD (WE 12:00-15:00/ WE15:00-18:00/ FR 09:00-12:00)

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2027 - April 30, 2027

Salary : $9,997.47 (Sessional Lecturer I)

$10,699.21 (Sessional Lecturer I Long Term)

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture (or related design discipline) and relevant professional experience in design.

Preferred Qualifications: We are seeking applicants with a professional degree in architecture (Master’s or Bachelor’s) and a record of teaching architectural design at the undergraduate or graduate-level. Demonstrated experience in architectural practice is an asset. Demonstrated design excellence is desired and will be evaluated through consideration of professional experience, design awards (if applicable), and a 1-2 page portfolio.

Duties: Preparation and delivery of course material; managing digital teaching materials, supervision of teaching assistants; preparation and delivery of assignments, tests, final examinations and deferred final examinations; marking of student work, submission of grades, dealing with student enquiries, appeals and petitions and student contact hours.
