Course number and title: EESA06H3 - Introduction to Planet Earth

Course description:This general interest course explores the composition, structure and origin of the Earth and the tectonic, chemical and biological processes that have evolved over the last 4.5 billion years. It explains how planet "works" as a complex system. It provides a fundamental basis for understanding many of the environmental challenges faced by human societies especially natural hazards, water shortages, and climate change, and the importance of natural resources to our economy.

Number of Hours: 0.5 FCE

Sessional dates of appointment: Specific duties will occur between January 1, 2027 and April 30, 2027.

Salary: Starting September 1, 2026 the following rates of pay apply for half courses (F or S), inclusive of vacation pay: $9,997.48 for a Sessional Lecturer I; $10,699.22 for a Sessional Lecturer I-Long Term; $10,699.22 for a Sessional Lecturer II; $10,953.96 for an Sessional Lecturer II-Long Term; $10,953.96 Sessional Lecturer III; and $11,228.90 for a Sessional Lecturer III-Long Term. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. The rate of pay is established by the Collective Agreement between Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 3902 Unit 3 and the University of Toronto.

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in Environmental Geoscience, have proven University lecture experience with high enrollment course(s) and be familiar with computer technology and its application to course management (i.e. Quercus).
Past teaching experience is a more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position.

Description of duties: Preparation of on-line modules, creation of exams, term tests and assignments, marking, marks management, supervision of TA(s), conducting office hours.

Lectures: Mondays 11 am to 1 pm and Online Asynchronous
Term test and exams will be in-person
