PURPOSE

The Service Lube position is responsible for safely and effectively maintaining the fuelling and lubing requirements of all surface mobile mining equipment used throughout the mine site, including but not limited to loaders, haul trucks, hoes, shovels, dozers, graders and drills, thereby ensuring the continual safe and efficient operation of these vehicles at all times. The Service Lube position can be a precursor to apprenticeship consideration in the mechanical trades.

Detailed Job Description

The Service Lube position is responsible for safely and effectively maintaining the fuelling and lubing requirements of all surface mobile mining equipment used throughout the mine site, including but not limited to loaders, haul trucks, hoes, shovels, dozers, graders and drills, thereby ensuring the continual safe and efficient operation of these vehicles at all times. The Service Lube position can be a precursor to apprenticeship consideration in the mechanical trades.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The service lube is accountable to the Mine Maintenance Foreman.

Responsibilities & Performance Standards

• Responsible for ensuring that all fuel and lube requirements are fulfilled by following established service schedules, legislation, policies and approved operating procedures.
• Responsible for conducting safety and maintenance inspections on equipment as required to ensure that proper lubrication is maintained and that potential problems are identified and rectified as quickly and efficiently as possible.
• Responsible for the care and maintenance of all fuel and lube vehicles (service trucks), supplies and equipment.
• As experience is gained and knowledge and skills become proficient, will be responsible for completing more advanced maintenance tasks such as PM’s.
• Attend and participate in toolbox meetings.
• Complete reports and time sheets as required.

SPECIFIC CLASSIFICATIONS

Service Lube 4 – Employees without prior qualifications (experience, demonstrated knowledge and abilities) will enter the Lube/Serviceman 4 classification. Employees will initially receive training on safety and emergency procedures and will learn and become proficient on Lube/Serviceman responsibilities. Service Lube 3 – After a minimum of 540 hours of experience, an employee who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability required by the function will be advanced to the Lube/Serviceman 3 classification as applicable. Service Lube 2 – After a minimum of 540 hours of experience, an employee who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability required by the function will be advanced to the Lube/Serviceman 2 classification as applicable. A valid class 3 driver’s license with air endorsement is required. Service Lube 1 – After a minimum of 1040 hours of experience, an employee who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability required by the function will be advanced to the Lube/Serviceman 1 classification as applicable. A valid class 3 driver’s license with air endorsement is required.

Experience

Previous industrial experience servicing mobile equipment is an asset for service lube 4 position. Minimum hours, knowledge, skills and abilities are required for Service Lube 3,2,1 positions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Except for entry level (Lube/Serviceman 4) hires, the following knowledge, skills and abilities are expected:

• Knowledge of safety procedures/standards including lock-outs, use of wheel chocks, etc.
• Knowledge of the safe operation of fuel and lube service equipment and supplies
• Knowledge of coal production and equipment operation processes
• Knowledge of mobile heavy equipment names
• Knowledge of basic equipment maintenance requirements
• Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets.
• Knowledge of Basic First Aid and WHMIS
• Sound time management skills
• Ability to work alone and unsupervised

Physical Requirements

• The incumbent needs to be able to:
• handle loads over 20 kg. in weight
• valid class 5 driver’s license
• sit or stand for over 60 consecutive minutes

• work in environmental extremes for over 60 consecutive minutes

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The incumbent works at the CST Coal Mine Site in Grande Cache on a 7 day-on/7 day-off rotation that includes working weekends and holidays. The 12 hour daily schedule may include both day and evening shifts. Some overtime and being on standby or ready for “call outs” may be required due to the nature of the work. He/she is in an outdoor setting 95% of the time and in an office or shop setting 5% of the time and liaises with other employees, contractors and senior mining personnel. The nature of the work requires being exposed to fumes, odors or chemicals in emergent situations, dangerous physical hazards such as moving machinery, and loud and continuous noise levels that require ear protection. As a condition of employment, the incumbent is required to comply with pre-employment drug/alcohol and medical testing as per established policy. As required, personal protective equipment will include the use of an approved hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, hearing protection, approved respiratory protection, clothing and gloves
