CST Canada Coal Limited in Grande Cache, Alberta, is seeking a licensed Industrial Electrician to perform planned and breakdown maintenance for mining equipment and facilities. You will interpret technical drawings, install and repair electrical systems, and ensure safe, efficient operation in a harsh mining environment.

The role requires 7 on/7 off rotation with 12-hour shifts, outdoor work 95% of the time, and mandatory PPE usage.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Industrial Electrician license/certificate in Alberta or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience with surface mining mobile equipment preferred.
  • 1 year of industrial experience on relevant mining equipment or installations.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specs to layout industrial electrical equipment installations.
  • Install, examine, replace, or repair wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and coaxial cables, lighting, and other components.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
  • Maintain, repair, test, and install switchgear, transformers, meters, regulators, and reactors.
  • Maintain motors, generators, alternators, and industrial control systems.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical and electronic control systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records.
  • Install, maintain, and calibrate industrial instrumentation as required.

Job description

Electricians areresponsible for performing planned and breakdownmaintenance/repair/installations to mobile and stationery equipment orfacilities, ensuring that all work is completed in a safe, environmentally friendly,and cost-effective manner as determined by the established requirements of theapplicable trade.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The CertifiedElectrician is directly accountable to the applicable Electrical Foreman.He/she may be required to supervise and report on an apprentice from time totime.

RESPONSIBILITIES & PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics,and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrialelectrical equipment installations.
  • Install, examine, replace, or repair electricalwiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic andcoaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures, and other electrical components.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment andcomponents for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
  • Maintain, repair, install and test switchgear,transformers, switchboard meters, regulators, and reactors.
  • Maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors,generators, alternators, industrial storage batteries, and hydraulic andpneumatic electrical control systems.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical,and electronic control systems and other related devices.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keepmaintenance records.
  • May install, maintain, and calibrate industrialinstrumentation and related devices.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education

JourneymanIndustrial Electrician, as defined by Apprenticeship & Industry Training,Government of Alberta, a trade certificate issued in Alberta, a recognizedtrade certificate or an Alberta equivalency document is required in theapplicable trade in which the employee is working.

A current St.John Ambulance Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR is an asset.

Experience

Extensiveexperience relevant to the surface mining mobile equipment in a coal miningenvironment is preferred.

A minimum of 1-yearindustrial experience working on equipment or installations relevant to thearea of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent needs to be ableto:

  • handle loads over 20 kg. in weight
  • operate a vehicle requiring a Class 5 license.
  • sit or stand for over 60 consecutive minutes.
  • concentrate for over 60 consecutive minutes.
  • work in environmental extremes for over 60 consecutiveminutes
  • stay alert during periods of inactivity for more than60 minutes.
  • hear specific noises over background noises.
  • frequently use peripheral vision
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The incumbent works at the CSTCoal Mine Site in Grande Cache on a 7 day-on/7 day-off rotation that includesworking weekends and holidays. The 12-hour daily schedule may include both dayand evening shifts. Some overtime and being on standby or ready for “call outs”may be required due to the nature of the work. He/she is in an outdoor setting95% of the time and in an office or shop setting 5% of the time and liaiseswith other employees, contractors, and senior mining personnel. The nature ofthe work requires being exposed to fumes, odors or chemicals in emergentsituations, dangerous physical hazards such as moving machinery, and loud andcontinuous noise levels that require ear protection. As a condition ofemployment, the incumbent is required to comply with pre-employmentdrug/alcohol and medical testing as per established policy. As required,personal protective equipment will include the use of an approved hard hat,safety glasses, steel toe boots, hearing protection, approved respiratoryprotection, clothing, and gloves.
