Job description

Responsible to and under the general supervision of the Bartender and Operations Manager, the Server is responsible for carrying out the procedures necessary to maintain a high standard of customer service and room cleanliness.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides table service by taking and delivering food and beverage orders.
  • Ensures that customers consistently receive a high level of customer service offered with a positive attitude, in accordance with Students' Union policies.
  • Handles cash for the products sold and records the total cash-out value of items sold on each shift.
  • Maintains table, room and bar area cleanliness, including regular bussing and wiping of tables and ensuring floor surface cleanliness.
  • Monitors patron levels of intoxication and takes appropriate action when necessary in accordance with established Server intervention procedures and provincial liquor laws.
  • Enforces the AGLC Liquor Control Act, the Alberta Health Services Act, U of A and Students’ Union regulations and policies.
  • Performs other job‑related duties as required by the Operations Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum Alberta Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • One year of experience preferred but not necessary.
  • Must have passed ‘Proserve’ training within the first two weeks of employment.
  • Personal cleanliness and dress in accordance with Students' Union policy.
  • Experience operating an Interac terminal and processing charge card transactions.
  • Ability to deal with staff, students and the general public in a professional, friendly and diplomatic manner.
