Job summary

The Library of Parliament in Ottawa is seeking a Serials Technician to ensure timely processing and management of library resources to support access to Parliament information. The incumbent updates bibliographic records, maintains holdings data, processes new materials, coordinates withdrawals, and supports collection development through data maintenance and system enhancements.

Qualifications include a Diploma in Library and Information Technology or equivalent, experience with library

Qualifications

• Diploma in Library & Information Technology or related field, or acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
• Experience using integrated library systems for acquisitions and for maintaining bibliographic/ holdings data.
• Experience processing library resources including receipt, verification, tracking and withdrawal of materials.
• Experience monitoring orders, claims, renewals and supplier relations for library resources.
• Experience using ticketing systems to manage workflows.

Responsibilities

• Update bibliographic records and collection-related data in the ILS and other information systems.
• Maintain bibliographic and holdings data quality, resolve holdings issues, and manage changes to title, format, frequency, and publication mergers/cessations.
• Process newly acquired physical materials, coordinate withdrawals, and prepare inventory and supporting documentation.
• Review ILS reports and communications regarding orders, vendors, claims and cancellations.
• Support collection development through data maintenance, system testing, enhancements, and participation in projects to improve collection quality and access.
