Job summary

The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) invites applications for a Library Technician. This CUPE Local 1328 union position serves in the Library Resource Centre across multiple Toronto locations, during a 10-month period from late August to early July.

The successful candidate will hold a Library Technician Diploma, be proficient with library automation software, Microsoft Word, and database management, and will supervise students, organize resources, and maintain circulation systems

Qualifications

• Must hold a Library Technician Diploma. Consideration will be given to candidates nearing successful completion of the program.
• Pastoral Reference Letter indicating you are a practicing Roman Catholic (dated within the past 12 months).
• Experience with library automation software, MS Word and Windows applications and database management.
• Demonstrated organizational, and office management skills.

Responsibilities

• Display, promote and compile learning materials and bibliographic sources to support and supplement curriculum programs.
• Make presentations to large and small groups of students.
• Supervise students in the Library Resource Centre and other locations in emergency situations.
• Establish and manage a competent system of administration for the Library Resource Centre with efficient circulation procedures.
• Work with staff and students in using a range of information sources and provide guidance in locating materials.
• Encourage interest in books and resources to promote learning.
• Classify and catalogue learning resources and maintain catalogue and inventory.
• Maintain lending/renewing/recalling systems and overdue procedures; shelve and file materials.
• Maintain inventory and arrange servicing of equipment.
• Process materials (barcodes, security strips, labels) and remove obsolete items.
