Job summary

Randstad Canada is seeking a Senior UX Designer in Toronto to lead user-centered design initiatives across web and mobile applications. You will translate research findings into intuitive interfaces, create prototypes, and collaborate with developers, QA, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities span end-to-end UX from discovery to usability testing, including workshops, information architecture, and rapid iteration. 12-month contract with onsite collaboration and design ownership.

Qualifications

• Experience creating GUI designs for web and mobile (Strictly Required).
• Ability to define, lead and manage UX projects, facilitating workshops and alignment sessions.
• Proficient in modern design/prototyping tools such as Figma or Canva (Strictly Required).
• Experience planning, conducting, and synthesizing user research into wireframes/journeys/prototypes (Strictly Required).
• Proven collaboration with developers, QA, and business leads to deliver technical solutions (Strictly Required).

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior UX Designer to define, lead, and execute user-centered product design initiatives across web and mobile applications. In this role, you will be responsible for creating intuitive, accessible, and visually appealing graphical user interfaces based on user research and performance metrics. Working closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, QA specialists, and business stakeholders, you will facilitate design workshops, conduct end-to-end user research, build interactive prototypes, and rapidly iterate designs based on user testing feedback.

Location: Toronto, ON (Onsite)

Duration: 12-month contract.

Responsibilities

• User-Centered Interface Design: Create intuitive, responsive, and visually compelling graphical user interfaces (GUIs) optimized across a wide range of web and mobile devices.
• UX Strategy & Workshop Facilitation: Define and lead end-to-end UX projects, facilitating co-design workshops, visioning sessions, and alignment meetings with business users and key stakeholders.
• End-to-End User Research: Conceive, plan, and conduct user research activities including stakeholder interviews, questionnaires, and usability testing sessions; synthesize findings into actionable research reports.
• Information Architecture & Prototyping: Translate user insights and business requirements into comprehensive sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.
• Usability Testing & Rapid Iteration: Test interactive prototypes with target users, gather continuous feedback, and rapidly iterate designs to refine functionality and optimize user experience.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with developers, QA analysts, and product owners to ensure technical feasibility, clear specification handover, and consistent design implementation.
• Accessibility & Design System Compliance: Ensure all digital interfaces adhere to modern web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 Level AA) and align with applicable design systems and digital service guidelines.
• Design Documentation & Governance: Produce clear technical design documentation, user stories, design rationale briefs, and UI specifications for development teams.

Qualifications

• UX/UI Design Experience: Proven experience as a UX Designer, Interactive Designer, or UI Designer creating GUI designs for web and mobile applications (Strictly Required).
• UX Project & Workshop Leadership: Demonstrated ability to define, lead, and manage UX projects, including facilitating design workshops and alignment sessions with stakeholders (Strictly Required).
• Design & Prototyping Software: Proficient hands-on experience using modern design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Canva, or similar platforms (Strictly Required).
• End-to-End User Research: Hands-on experience planning, conducting, and synthesizing user research, surveys, and usability testing into wireframes, journey maps, and prototypes (Strictly Required).
• Cross-Functional Delivery: Proven track record collaborating closely with developers, QA specialists, and business leads to deliver technical solutions (Strictly Required).

Nice-to-Have Assets

• Familiarity with the Ontario Design System, Digital Service Standards, or prior public service environment experience.
• Experience designing accessible interfaces compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
• Experience navigating complex design challenges within legacy systems or multi-stakeholder approval frameworks.
