Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a transmission line engineer to design lines from 69kV to 500kV, lead technical analyses, and develop design criteria. You will mentor junior staff and collaborate with clients and vendors on line components while managing project budgets and schedules.

The role offers a hybrid schedule with three days in-office and travel for site visits. Strong experience with PLS-CADD and multiple design codes is required, and a Canadian/US accreditation is preferred.

Qualifications

• BS degree from an ABET- or AACSB-accredited program (Canada/US).
• Proficiency with PLS-CADD software to review transmission line models.
• 7+ years’ experience on transmission line design projects including schedules, budgets, and procurement.
• Knowledge of right of way, sag/tension, plan and profile drawings, and construction documents.
• Familiarity with design codes: NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318.
• Proficiency with MS Office; strong written and verbal communication; detail orientation.

Responsibilities

• Design transmission lines in the 69kV to 500kV range.
• Perform cost analyses and develop design criteria, routing and siting of lines.
• Conduct conductor selection studies and related analyses (shielding, grounding, induction).
• Coordinate with vendors and clients to specify transmission line components.
• Direct a small project team and liaise with construction and installation.
