Job summary

Sargent & Lundy’s Calgary-based opportunity focuses on designing underground transmission lines up to 500 kV, including routing, duct banks, manholes, and supporting calculations. You’ll lead a small team, coordinate with vendors, and develop specifications while addressing costs and schedules.

The role exists on a hybrid schedule with three days in-office weekly and a potential relocation package depending on location. Strong engineering judgment and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• BS degree from a Canadian EAB-accredited program or ABET-equivalent.
• Proficiency with CYMCAP modeling.
• Proficiency with cable tensioning calculations or software.
• 12+ years on underground transmission projects with budgets/schedules.
• Design experience meeting codes and client requirements.
• Experience with XLPE cable design and equipment specs.
• Ability to develop installation/specification documents.
• Knowledge of right-of-way, bonding schemes, and drawings.
• Familiarity with NESC, EPRI, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318.
• Excellent MS Office skills and strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Design underground transmission lines up to 500 kV including routing and manhole placement.
• Develop duct bank configurations, trenchless designs, and cable pull calculations.
• Conduct cost analyses, develop design criteria, and schedule coordination.
• Coordinate with vendors/clients on transmission line components.
• Lead a small project team of engineers, designers, and drafters.
