Job summary

BC Hydro is seeking an experienced Thermal Plant Manager in Campbell River, BC. You will oversee all operations and maintenance, coordinating safety, environmental, compliance, and financial responsibilities for a ~14-person team at Island Generation.

You will ensure regulatory compliance, manage budgets, and drive improvements while maintaining a safety-first culture and strong stakeholder relations. This role requires BC/Interprovincial Power Engineering credentials and extensive plant

Qualifications

• Leadership experience in a large industrial setting with safety focus.
• Strong financial acumen including budgeting and variance analysis.
• Proven ability to drive process improvements and cost control.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Operations and Maintenance for a large gas turbine plant; lead ~14 staff.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and reliability regulations.
• Deliver on budget, safety, and operational performance objectives.
• Develop safety, operations, maintenance, and environment programs.
• Act as Emergency Operations Centre Director/Incident Commander if needed.
• Manage incident investigations and root-cause analyses.
• Contribute to facility budgets and capital improvement plans.
• Approve facility-level work and manage supplier contracts.
• Foster engagement and administer the collective agreement.
• Lead safety-first culture and coach managers and crews.

Education

Power Engineering Certification (First Class preferred)

Second Class Power Engineer Certificate (BC or Interprovincial)

Pursuing 1st Class Power Engineering Certificate
