Job description

Technical Program Managers (TPMs) play a critical role at Marqeta in leading large-scale initiatives across our product and technology organizations. TPMs structure and oversee programs from inception to launch and ongoing delivery, ensuring better workflows and more effective communication. They work closely with executives and key company stakeholders to drive critical programs and activities across the company.

Marqeta's Technology and AI division provides online services infrastructure, engineering pipelines, observability, cybersecurity, compliance, data platforms, analytics, artificial intelligence, and more. It manages thousands of live service instances across two continents, processing hundreds of millions of transactions and moving billions of dollars on behalf of hundreds of millions of cardholders. As a Senior Technical Program Manager for the Data Platform, you will drive and report on a portfolio of transformational programs aimed at modernizing and uplifting all of Marqeta's online services. You will lead process, data, and technology transformations across agile engineering teams and collaborate with other organizational units. Additionally, you will partner with leadership to shape strategy and help plan, organize, and execute key initiatives.

The Impact You'll Have

  • Provide excellent technical program management, overseeing a portfolio of programs to deliver and evolve Marqeta's online services.
  • Manage the engineering efforts to evolve our data platform services, ensuring they are secure, compliant, reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient.
  • Develop and leverage strong partnerships to drive transformation while remaining agile to adapt to changing business needs.
  • Proactively collaborate with stakeholders to identify high-priority initiatives.
  • Define and implement communication plans to report on programs to various stakeholders, including executive-level reporting.
  • Manage risks, schedules, and blockers, facilitating problem-solving within teams.
  • Use data to validate assumptions, define success metrics, and drive strategic improvements.
  • Suggest improvements to TPM standards to enhance service quality.
  • Utilize Scrum and agile practices to improve initiative delivery across engineering teams.

Who You Are

  • At least 3 years of experience in large-scale data services, with familiarity in technologies such as Airflow, Snowflake, Kafka, and Change Data Capture platforms.
  • Minimum of 5 years managing technical programs or projects involving online services' engineering delivery and operations.
  • Proficient in agile software development practices.
  • Familiar with modern cloud-based service technologies.
  • Understanding of modern SSDLC practices, including security vulnerabilities and remediation (OWASP Top 10).
  • Strong knowledge of practices for delivering high-availability online services.
  • 5 years of experience specifically in technical program management.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of working independently across time zones.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and see the big picture to drive success.
  • Experience working with diverse teams, including executive sponsors.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex, cross-functional projects.
  • Pragmatic, resourceful, and action-oriented problem solver.
  • Change agent focused on progress over perfection.

Compensation and Benefits (Canada)

Marqeta is a Flex First company, allowing you to choose your optimal work environment, whether from home or at an office. Compensation is calibrated based on location, skills, and experience. The salary range in CAD is $104,200 - $130,200. We also offer annual bonuses, health insurance options, flexible time off, retirement contributions, equity, remote work stipends, development dollars, family benefits, and parental leave.
