Job summary

RXO is seeking a Senior Specialist, Customs Operations to join our Canada customs team in Burnaby. You will analyze and process imports/exports, ensure compliance with laws, and advise clients on tariff classifications and trade programs.

Focus on delivering trusted customs service while coordinating with internal teams and external partners. The role requires a Bachelor's degree and 5 years in customs brokerage, with CCS or CTCS desirable, and experience with Cargowise or Descartes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 5 years in customs brokerage.
• Experience with CARM, CERS, and OGD portals.
• Strong knowledge of customs laws/regulations.
• CCS certification.
• Experience with Cargowise or Descartes.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills.
• Experience developing and delivering training or guidance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Timely analyze, process and monitor customs entry to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Coordinate with internal and external partners to ensure smooth import/export operations.
• Maintain regular client communication on customs requirements and trade programs.
• Provide guidance on tariff classifications and CARM client portal usage.
• Develop and update operational procedures for consistent service delivery.
• Mentor junior staff and foster an inclusive, respectful team culture.

You will play an essential role in maintaining seamless import/export operations, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and providing our clients with customs support in complex international trades.Become a part of our growing, dynamic team and help drive operational excellence across our Customs Brokerage organization.What your day-to-day will look like:Timely analyze, process and monitor customs entry to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.Active coordination and communication with internal and external partners to ensure smooth import/export operations.Maintain regular communication with clients to provide strategic advice on customs requirements, OGD requirements, tariff classifications, CARM client portal, duty drawback, and other trade programs.Focus on providing excellent customs service and building strong client relationships by being as a trusted advisor and point of contact for complex customs matters.Collaborate with other internal departments to complete operational tasks including account setup, accounts payable and receivable, IT requests, etc.Stay up-to-date on customs laws & regulations and ever-changing global trade landscape to ensure our clients getting first-hand customs information.Develop and update operational procedures to ensure services are delivered in a consistent and efficient manner.Provide guidance and direction to junior staffs by sharing knowledge, experience and fostering an inclusive and respectful team culture.At a minimum, you'll need:Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience5 years of experience in customs brokerage and trade complianceWorking experience with CARM, CERS, OGD portalsStrong knowledge of customs laws/regulationsCertified Customs Specialist (CCS) designationExcellent communication, organizational, and analytical skillsExperience with Cargowise or Descartes systemIt'd be great if you also have:Certified Trade Compliance Specialist (CTCS) designationExperience with other trade programs including duty drawback and customs rulingExperience conducting complianceExperience developing and delivering training programsKnowledge of freight forwarding or carrier operation.Does this sound like you?
