Job summary

City of Edmonton is seeking an experienced equipment operator to screen, handle and process waste materials at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre (EWMC). The role focuses on safe and productive operation of multiple composting-related machines and daily paperwork.

You will work with a team to maintain equipment, perform light maintenance, adhere to PPE requirements, and participate in safety meetings while supporting curbside waste streams and seasonal shifts.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade ten (10) or equivalent or higher.
• Two (2) years of experience operating compost screening equipment, stacking conveyors loaders, horizontal grinders, water truck, and excavators in a composting facility environment.
• One (1) year heavy duty equipment operating experience required.

Responsibilities

• Operate specialty mobile equipment including grinder, shredder, tracked excavator with hydraulic grapple, water truck, and articulating wheel loader.
• Perform light maintenance and clean equipment while completing relevant paperwork.
• Identify, troubleshoot and report equipment mechanical issues.
• Support cure site operations including tarping piles, pumping equipment, and sorting yard waste.
• Attend safety meetings and report health and safety concerns.
• Perform other duties as required.
