Job summary

National Bank of Canada is seeking an AVP Regional Lead for the Western Canada Advisory Group in Calgary or Vancouver. The role leads a growing advisory team, driving complex commercial lending strategies and risk-aware decision making across the region.

The ideal candidate will bring deep credit expertise, a track record of leadership across advisory functions, and the ability to partner with Commercial Banking, Risk Management, and regional leaders to advance underwriting quality and portfolio

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent professional experience; MBA considered an asset
• 15+ years of progressive commercial banking experience with underwriting or related leadership roles
• Strong credit risk expertise, transaction structuring, risk assessment, and governance
• Demonstrated leadership in building and scaling high-performing teams and advisory functions
• Excellent executive communication, judgment, and stakeholder management

Responsibilities

• Lead the Western Canada Advisory Group, directing strategic priorities, operating model, and talent development
• Provide senior oversight on structuring and underwriting large, complex transactions across Western Canada
• Translate portfolio insights into actionable guidance for underwriting teams and risk partners
• Maintain governance standards, tools, and templates to ensure consistency and quality of advice
• Collaborate with Commercial Banking, Credit Execution, Risk Management, and regional leadership to align strategies
