Description

You are a Senior Project Accountant reporting to the Project Controller. As the Project Accountant, you are responsible for the accurate and timely entry and reporting of data in the company's financial systems. Your responsibilities include accounts receivable, subcontract management, payroll, equipment time entry, accounts payable, month-end closing, and key financial reporting/analysis. You will collaborate with management and project teams through effective communication to ensure data accuracy, timeliness, and completeness, while helping leverage that data to improve business performance.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Cost reporting and strategic analysis
  2. Implementation and management of effective Project Cost Controls
  3. Understanding and articulating project contractual commercial terms
  4. Communicating reporting information and interpretations with leadership
  5. Influencing the development and implementation of collective agreements
  6. Coordinating the collection and submission of documentation required for invoicing, including statutory declarations and WCB clearance letters
  7. Preparing and submitting LEMs to the client
  8. Collecting third-party invoices to support client billings
  9. Preparing monthly equipment rental billings
  10. Preparing progress billings, invoices, and holdback releases
  11. Processing electronic billing submissions and reconciling client billing systems
  12. Tracking outside rental agreements against contracts
  13. Working with field teams and payroll to ensure timely time entry
  14. Collaborating with Project Management to identify potential change orders
  15. Subcontractor management
  16. Preparing month-end journal entries

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role
  2. Post-secondary business degree
  3. Experience in commercial construction, Telecom, or related industry preferred
  4. Knowledge of JD Edwards or similar ERP preferred
  5. Understanding of construction methods
  6. Financial acumen regarding equipment utilization, rates, and profitability analysis
  7. Knowledge of construction accounting principles and systems
  8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Work Conditions:

  • Hybrid work model with 1-2 days/week in the Calgary office
