Job summary

BGC Okanagan is seeking a part-time Senior Program Leader in Vernon, BC, to oversee the Ellison Elementary Club after-school program and supervise staff and children. The role ensures a safe, inclusive environment and adherence to licensing regulations.

The position involves mentorship of activity leaders, day-to-day operations, and calendar planning, with emphasis on child wellbeing and program quality. Hours are 30 per week, with a competitive hourly wage.

Qualifications

  • Diploma, certificate, or completion of at least 20 hours of coursework in areas such as child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition (required for licensed programs)
  • One (1) year of recent, related experience working with children or youth in recreation, education, or social services
  • Valid First Aid and Food Safe Certificates
  • Class 4 Driver’s Licence or willingness to obtain
  • Be at least 19 years of age as per Licensing Regulations
  • Successful completion of Agency screening including a Criminal Record Check

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of an assigned program. Develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates plans and programs designed to ensure that the needs of children, youth, and families are met.
  • Will be the Licensed Manager as per Licensing Regulations to ensure all activities adhere to Child Care Licensing Regulations.
  • Supervise, mentor, guide and leads activity leaders, if there are multiple staff within the program.
  • Provides day-to-day direction, performance feedback, as well as participates in discipline of staff and volunteers within the program. Addresses staff workplace issues and assist in resolving workplace disputes.
  • Create program activity calendar to be distributed to members and families.
  • Provides group and/or individual behaviour management and support.
  • Participate in the recruitment of program staff and volunteers, including conducting interviews, selection, hiring, orientation, training and discipline up to termination in accordance with agency policy.
  • Ensures that accurate program and member records are maintained and that confidentiality is a priority.

BGC Okanagan is seeking a part-time Senior Program Leader to join our After School Program at the Ellison Elementary Club in Vernon, BC. In this leadership role, you will oversee the day-to-day delivery of the program while supervising, mentoring, and supporting staff and children. You will help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

Rate of Pay: $23.98 per hour
