Job summary

BGC Okanagan is seeking a temporary, part-time Senior Program Leader for the After School Program at Shannon Lake Elementary in West Kelowna, BC. The role oversees day-to-day operations, supervises staff and volunteers, and ensures compliance with licensing regulations.

The position runs September 2026 to June 2027 with potential additional hours during school breaks. Requires a diploma/certificate in relevant field, 1 year experience, First Aid and Food Safe, and a Criminal Record Check.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition (required for licensed programs).
  • One year of recent, related experience with children or youth in recreation, education, or social services.
  • Valid First Aid and Food Safe Certificates.
  • Class 4 Driver's Licence or willingness to obtain.
  • Be at least 19 years of age as per Licensing Regulations.
  • Successful completion of Agency screening including a Criminal Record Check.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the assigned program and develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate plans to meet the needs of children, youth and families.
  • Act as Licensed Manager to ensure activities adhere to Child Care Licensing Regulations.
  • Supervise, mentor, guide and lead staff within the program.
  • Provide day-to-day direction and performance feedback, address workplace issues, and participate in staff discipline when needed.
  • Create the program activity calendar and distribute to members and families.
  • Provide group or individual behaviour management and support.
  • Participate in recruiting program staff and volunteers, including interviews, hiring and training as per policy.
  • Maintain accurate program and member records with confidentiality.

BGC Okanagan is hiring a temporary, part-time Senior Program Leader for After School Program at the Shannon Lake Elementary club in West Kelowna, BC. In this leadership role, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the assigned program while supervising, mentoring, and supporting both staff and children.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of an assigned program. Develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates plans and programs designed to ensure that the needs of children, youth, and families are met.
  • Will be the Licensed Manager as per Licensing Regulations to ensure all activities adhere to Child Care Licensing Regulations.
  • Supervise, mentor, guide and leads activity leaders, if there are multiple staff within the program.
  • Provides day-to-day direction, performance feedback, as well as participates in discipline of staff and volunteers within the program. Addresses staff workplace issues and assists in resolving workplace disputes.
  • Create program activity calendar to be distributed to members and families.
  • Provides group and/or individual behaviour management and support.
  • Participate in the recruitment of program staff and volunteers, including conducting interviews, selection, hiring, orientation, training and discipline up to termination in accordance with agency policy.
  • Ensures that accurate program and member records are maintained and that confidentiality is a priority.
Qualifications:
  • A diploma, certificate, or completion of at least 20 hours of coursework in areas such as child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition (required for licensed programs)
  • One (1) year of recent, related experience working with children or youth in recreation, education, or social services
  • Valid First Aid and Food Safe Certificates
  • Class 4 Driver's Licence or willingness to obtain
  • Be at least 19 years of age as per Licensing Regulations
  • Successful completion of Agency screening including a Criminal Record Check

Hours: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 12:00pm-6:00pm

Rate of Pay: $23.98 per hour
