Job summary

Boys and Girls Club Okanagan in Vernon, BC is seeking a Program Coordinator (Recreation) to plan, coordinate, and deliver high-quality programs for kids aged 7–13. The role includes overseeing daily activities, staff support, and ensuring safety and licensing compliance.

The position is 35 hours/week, Tue–Sat, with a rate of $24.69/hour and a comprehensive benefits plan. Ongoing paid professional development and childcare discounts are provided to support staff and families.

Qualifications

• Diploma in related human/social service field.
• Three (3) years of recent related experience including one (1) year supervisory or administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Demonstrated teamwork, leadership, and supervisory skills.
• First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.
• Class 5 Drivers Licence and willingness to obtain Class 4.
• Successful completion of the Agency screening process, including criminal record check.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of assigned recreation programs.
• Develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates plans and programs to meet the needs of children, youth, and families.
• Ensure program standards, guidelines, and policies of BGCO are followed and licensing requirements met.
• Assist with recruitment of program staff and volunteers including interviews and orientation.
• Provide direction and feedback to staff and volunteers and address workplace issues.

Recreation Program Coordinators are responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering high-quality recreation programs for children ages 7–13. Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of assigned recreation programs.
• Develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates plans and programs designed to ensure that the needs of children, youth, and families are met.
• Ensures that program standards, guidelines and policies of BGCO are maintained and that all licensing requirements are met.
• Assists with the recruitment of program staff and volunteers including conducting interviews, selection, hiring, and orientation.
• Authority for the day-to-day direction, performance feedback of program staff and volunteers. Addresses staff workplace issues and assists in resolving workplace disputes.
• Ensures that accurate program and client records are maintained, and that confidentiality is a priority.
• Responsible for the co-ordination of quality and diverse programming. Works closely with the Manager on program development, procedures, and evaluations.
• Liaises with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate service provision, facilitate referrals to the program and represent the organization and program in external events.
• Manages program budgets.
• Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.
• Ensures effective communication with staff and families.
