Job summary

BGC Okanagan is seeking a casual Program Area Leader to support Recreation programs for Children, Youth, and Families at our Lake Country site in Lake Country, BC. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to meaningful community programs and foster inclusive participation.

You will work with a team to deliver activities, ensure safety and licensing compliance, and promote program awareness at local events. The position emphasizes flexibility with casual/on-call hours.

Qualifications

• Diploma, certificate and/or relevant experience working with children/youth in recreation, education or social services
• Course of at least 20 hours including child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition (licensed programs)
• One year recent related experience
• Class 5 Driver’s Licence and willingness to obtain Class 4
• First Aid Certificate and Food Safe or willingness to obtain
• Successful completion of Agency screening including a Criminal Record Check

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements recreational, social, and/or educational activities for a specified program.
• Works in a team together with the Activity Leaders to deliver the specified program and encourages and facilitates member participation in activities.
• Oversees the day-to-day operation of the program by ensuring facilities/equipment are in place, program guidelines/policies are adhered to, and licensing requirements are met.
• Makes recommendations to the supervisor regarding program development, policy and procedure formulation, and program evaluation.
• Promotes public awareness of and support for the program by producing promotional materials and attending community events.
• Liaises with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate service provision, referrals to the program, and representation at external events.
• Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.

Education

Diploma/certificate or relevant experience in recreation/education/social services

One year related experience

First Aid Certificate and Food Safe or willingness to obtain

Class 5 Driver’s License and willingness to obtain Class 4

• Completion of a course or a combination of courses of at least 20 hours duration which include child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition (licensed programs)


• One (1) year recent related experience


• Class 5 Driver’s License and willingness to obtain Class 4 as soon as possible


• First Aid Certificate and Food Safe or willingness to obtain

• Successful completion of Agency screening including a Criminal Record Check

Hours: Casual/on call/As-needed

Rate of Pay: $19.82 per hour
