Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking a Senior Production Engineer. The Senior Production Engineer is responsible for the definition, oversight and execution of a clear, concise and discrete Production Engineering & Construction work scope . This role would constitute the technical ownership from initial Procurement activities through shipyard construction activities, and eventual hand over to the commissioning team upon construction completion.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The primary language of work is English.   • Education: Accredited Degree or Diploma in a Naval Architectural, Marine Systems Design or other discipline of Engineering relevant to the Shipbuilding industry, or equivalent experience
  • Academically qualified as an Engineering Professional (P. Eng) with experience in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar
  • Subject Matter Expert in the chosen work scope with proven experience in the execution of both the engineering and construction aspects
  • Some experience in technical and/or engineering Project Management, preferably with a PMI Certification or equivalent would be an asset
  • Knowledge of modern shipyard construction methodologies and the type of technical support required to be successful is considered essential to this role
  • Previous experience in support of the Supply Chain procurement process via interpretation of existing specifications and advising on the technical suitability of vendor proposals
  • Experience in a technical role related to preparation /QA of Ship Construction Technical Drawings from 3D Product Model software
  • Naval Ship related experience considered an asset
All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Multi-functional interface and oversight of project team efforts to ensure package, performance, and customer requirements are met through compliance with project technical specifications and production drawings for the assigned procurement/ construction scope of work
  • Support throughout Supply Chain procurement process via interpretation of existing project technical dpecifications and evaluating /advising on the suitability, viability and compliance of vendor proposals with ISI operation requirements
  • Serve as a liaison, coordinator, and primary Point of contact between the Manufacturing Engineering team, Planning/ Production Departments and sub-contractors by providing subject matter technical expertise and guidance
  • Provide Key Estimator input to final Signatory approval to all changes that affect the assigned Procurement sub-contract and any associated packages throughout construction activities
  • Ensure all CSC Program Change Management and configuration management procedures are maintained
  • Support Program Management in their efforts to plan and monitor execution of subcontracted construction scope by establishing cost and schedule control processes and metrics
  • Proactive identification of any possible cost/schedule issues and work with sub-contractors on definition and implementation of mitigation strategies
