Job summary

Workday is seeking a hands-on Senior Product Manager to own the Observability strategy, with a strong focus on Distributed Tracing. You will define the product vision for how engineers understand, debug, and optimize complex distributed systems, partnering with ML teams to ship AI-powered detection capabilities.

You’ll read traces and metrics, contribute to instrumenting with OpenTelemetry, and design triage workflows that surface confidence scores and human-in-the-loop review for on-call

Qualifications

• Own the Observability product vision, roadmap, and strategy.
• Define AI-enabled anomaly detection requirements and metrics.
• Collaborate with ML engineering for model requirements and evaluation.
• Work with SRE and engineering to ship high-impact products.

Responsibilities

• Own vision and roadmap for Observability with focus on Distributed Tracing.
• Define AI-based detection methods and baselining requirements.
• Partner with ML to set evaluation metrics and feedback loops.
• Define LLM-based root cause summaries and triage assistance.
• Specify confidence scores and human-in-the-loop in triage workflows.
• Collaborate with engineering to evaluate architectural trade-offs.
• Define success metrics to measure product impact.
• Perform customer and stakeholder research on debugging and alert fatigue.
• Write clear PRDs, user stories, and specs with design/DS teams.
• Stay current on observability trends like OpenTelemetry and eBPF-based tracing.
