Job summary

Affirm, Inc. is seeking a senior Compute Platform Engineer to own and evolve the EKS platform, driving cluster lifecycle, upgrades, and self-service provisioning. You will shape standardized workflows with Terraform/Spacelift and enforce workload safety across the fleet.

You’ll mentor engineers, partner with checkout/batch/ML teams, and optimize cost and capacity while ensuring high availability and observability across environments.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software or infrastructure engineering with proven delivery of complex platform solutions.
• 6+ years hands-on operating production Kubernetes at scale, ideally EKS on AWS.
• Strong cloud-native architecture on AWS (EC2, VPC, IAM, EKS).
• Experience with IaC (Terraform, Spacelift a plus) and GitOps-style pipelines.
• Expert-level Go or Python and building production-grade Kubernetes controllers and operators.

Responsibilities

• Architect and evolve affirm's EKS platform, driving strategy across cluster lifecycle and shared components.
• Lead provisioning, upgrades, and teardown via IaC and self-service workflows.
• Own reliability of core shared components and CI/CD pipelines for Kubernetes tooling.
• Define and enforce workload safety standards, including PDBs and isolation.
• Mentor engineers and participate in on-call rotations and incident response.
