Job summary

affirm is seeking an experienced Enterprise Kubernetes Platform Engineer to lead the EKS platform across provisioning, upgrades, and shared components. You will define safety standards, automate toil away with Terraform/GitOps, and ensure observability and cost efficiency.

You will mentor engineers and engage in on-call responsibilities to maintain reliability. The role emphasizes deep Kubernetes expertise, production-grade tooling, and cross-functional collaboration within a remote-first

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software or infra engineering; proven platform delivery.
• 6+ years operating production Kubernetes at scale, ideally EKS on AWS.
• Cloud-native architecture on AWS (EC2, VPC, IAM, EKS).
• Familiarity with IaC and GitOps deployment pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Architect and evolve affirm's EKS platform across cluster lifecycle and components.
• Lead provisioning, upgrades,.teardown via standardized IaC and self-service workflows.
• Own reliability of core shared components and CI/CD pipelines.
• Define workload safety standards including resource configuration and isolation.
• Build automation to move standards from research to policy-enforced defaults.
• Establish observability, baselines, audits to measure risk reduction.
• Collaborate with cluster-user teams to shape platform needs.
• Drive cost and capacity strategy for node scaling and EC2 selection.
• Mentor Compute Platform engineers and promote operational excellence.
• Participate in on-call rotation and partner with SRE for incidents.
