The Position:
Our client has long had a reputation for providing leading edge child, youth, and family mental health services. They are seeking a full-time Senior Payroll Specialist who will perform a variety of functions relating to the effective administration of payroll. This position is based in Calgary and follows a 37.5 hour workweek, Monday to Friday, with a scheduled lunch break.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Payroll Administration:
- Prepare and process semi-monthly payroll for all employees.
- Review the work of Payroll & Benefits Specialists for accuracy and completeness, identify and resolve anomalies.
- Work with People & Culture to ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, employee departures and other employee status changes.
- Work with Accounting team and assist with internal and external payroll related audits.
- Set up and ensure accurate deductions.
- Calculate staff time sheets, record vacation and sick time taken, and distribute monthly reports to supervisors.
- Reconcile payments with the Receiver General.
- Manage Garnishments.
- Issue Records of Employment.
- Prepare year end payroll files, produce and distribute T4s, T2200s and applicable reports for the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
- Set up and manage employer matching group plans such as RRSP, TFSA’s & Savings.
- Lead the implementation of a new payroll system from a payroll perspective.
- Keep up to date with legislation, agreements and policies, through formal training and independent research.
- Set up and monitor internal payroll processes for efficiency and compliance.
- Plan and delegate payroll tasks to payroll team.
- Train and support members of the payroll team.
- Provide coverage for planned and unplanned payroll and benefit team absences.
- Assist employees with payroll inquiries.
Other:- Adhere to payroll policies and practices relevant to the Agency and legislation.
- Provide information to internal management or external auditors when requested.
- Maintain payroll files to ensure accurate employee data.
- Identify potential improvements in payroll and benefits processing.
- Complete ad hoc payroll and benefits related tasks as needed.
Skills and Qualifications:
- A diploma in a related field preferred.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is required.
- Payroll Leadership Professions designation (PLP) would be considered an asset.
- A minimum of three years of work experience in payroll administration.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Experience with Avanti and UKG is an asset.
- High ethical standards and professionalism.
- Sound knowledge of current payroll legislation.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills, and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills.
