As Senior Officer, Events at the BC SPCA, you’ll join one of the most innovative and successful fundraising teams in Canada. The BC SPCA is funded by compassionate animal lovers who help us assist more than 135,000 animals each year. Your work will support these efforts. This role leads planning and execution of various fundraising and stewardship events, primarily focusing on the Offleashed Vancouver Gala, and also supporting the Offleashed Victoria Gala, Fur Balls, and other events across the province.

This position is based out of the BC SPCA Provincial Office in Vancouver (Hybrid); effective remote work will be required.

The role of Senior Officer, Events
  • Lead planning and execution for the annual Offleashed Vancouver Gala, working with the Development Assistant, Events.
  • Manage fundraising strategy, programmatic elements, logistics, timelines, budgets, sponsor recognition, donor stewardship, and marketing.
  • Collaborate with the Philanthropy team and committee members to build relationships and grow support for Offleashed Vancouver. Steward a small portfolio of supporters.
  • Oversee logistics for the Offleashed Victoria Gala and two Fur Balls, advising on future event strategies.
  • Ensure event themes, branding, messaging align with organizational objectives and support KPIs and organizational goals.
  • Use metrics to evaluate program success and report regularly.
  • Maintain relationships with industry peers and pursue ongoing education and innovation.
  • Supervise and mentor the Development Assistant, Events.
A typical day might include:
  • Developing sponsorship and ticket pricing strategies.
  • Meeting with colleagues and designers to refresh event branding.
  • Reviewing event websites and providing feedback.
  • Reconciling revenue data with Raiser’s Edge.
  • Scheduling video shoots and preparing interview briefs.
  • Preparing guest lists and briefing the CEO.

  • Post-secondary education plus 5-8 years of fundraising and events experience, or equivalent
  • Understanding of event and fundraising strategies, best practices, and goal achievement
  • Experience in creating and managing budgets, vendor relationships, and guiding colleagues and volunteers
  • Ability to work independently, create processes, and recognize when to escalate issues
  • Data management and analysis skills, supporting initiatives and demonstrating success
  • Effective communication with diverse audiences
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Results-oriented with good prioritization skills
  • CRM experience (Raiser’s Edge preferred), familiarity with online ticketing and auction systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, open environment
  • Availability for some evenings and weekends
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
