Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Ontario to join the Building Mechanical team. The role focuses on mechanical system design for commercial and institutional buildings, including hyperscale data centres, with opportunities to lead projects and coordinate across disciplines.

The candidate will participate in design reviews, site visits, and construction administration, contributing to code compliance and solution delivery while embracing HDR’s employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum 10 years in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Experience with architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firms
• Strong knowledge of MS Office, MS Project and AutoCAD
• Demonstrated leadership and project management experience
• Ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams and manage complex projects

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the work of the mechanical design team through schematic design, development and contract document phase
• Establish meetings and participate in reviews for code compliance
• Coordinate workload to complete the document on schedule
• Conduct site visits with the Project Manager and other disciplines
• Review mechanical documents for conflicts with other disciplines
• Write and edit mechanical specifications; select equipment and systems
• Coordinate with other disciplines on addenda, RFIs and change orders
• Provide construction contract administration as needed
• Perform QA/QC on the work of other engineers/coordinators
