Job summary

Sedgman Canada Limited in Vancouver is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer with hands-on design experience from concept to detail for mineral processing projects. You will develop cohesive plant layouts, optimize equipment arrangement and ensure constructability, maintainability and safety across designs.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in design/consultancy, strong AutoCAD 3D skills (AutoCAD, Inventor, Advance Steel, Navisworks) and the ability to coordinate multi-discipline work while meeting

• Associate Diploma in CAD / Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• 8+ years design/consultancy experience, mining or mineral processing exposure.
• Proven ability to coordinate full plant layouts for mining facilities.
• Strong understanding of equipment layout and material flow.
• Experience across multiple mining projects and plant sizes.
• Strong AutoCAD 3D skills: AutoCAD, Inventor, Advance Steel, Navisworks.
• Able to work autonomously.
• Proficient MS Office skills.

Responsibilities

Job description

Sedgman is currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Designer, with hands-on experience on projects ranging from conceptual design to detailed engineering. This person will be based out of our Vancouver office. The ideal incumbent will have extensive 3D design and plant layout experience, with the ability to develop cohesive facility designs that balance operational efficiency, constructability, maintainability and safety.

The Senior Mechanical Designer works on a diverse array of projects across the Mineral Processing industry. You'll be involved in the entire design process, from concept to detailed design.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete the design of equipment and plant layouts from sketches or specification outlines in the mechanical field under direction of engineers
• Create 3D designs from complex, multidiscipline engineering concepts.
• Participate in design reviews, proactively identifying risks, resolving technical issues, and ensuring compliance with project specifications, relevant standards, and client requirements.
• Comply with the Change Management process for engineering design
• Prepare drawings of designs relating to plant, equipment, services or other facilities or structures.
• Participate in the development and continuous improvement of the Quality management process and system.
• Ensure engineering designs follow the standard Sedgman design workflows, systems and procedures
• Focus on meeting expectations for schedule, quality and client satisfaction
• Check drafting deliverables for accuracy, completeness and adherence to design specifications & intent.
• Apply attention and diligence to uphold quality standards, and client requirements, to complete tasks efficiently.

About You

• Associate Diploma in CAD / Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• Must have 8+ years industry experience in a design / consultancy environment, with minimum 3 years supporting mining or mineral processing projects.
• Proven experience developing and coordinating full plant layouts for mining and mineral processing facilities
• Strong understanding of equipment arrangement, access requirements, material flow, maintenance considerations and operational efficiency.
• Demonstrated experience across multiple mining projects and plant sizes, with the ability to apply practical layout solutions from conceptual design through to detailed engineering.
• Strong expertise in Auto CAD 3D software (AutoCAD, Inventor, Advance Steel, Navisworks) is essential
• Ability to work autonomously.
• Previous MS Office skills

Salary range: $90,000-115,000
