Job summary

Cogir Senior Living is seeking a Cook to prepare and deliver meals for residents, guests and staff in a retirement setting. You will review menus, ensure safe food handling, and maintain daily audits while respecting special diets and budgets.

A strong candidate holds a Food Handler’s Certificate and ideally a Red Seal; experience in healthcare food prep and knowledge of dietary regulations is essential. The role requires physical stamina and may involve a second language; Vulnerable Sector

Qualifications

• Must possess a Food Handler’s Certificate.
• Red Seal Certificate preferred.
• Experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably in a healthcare or retirement setting.
• Knowledge of Provincial Food Premises Regulation and Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating.
• Knowledge of special and therapeutic diets.
• Must be physically able to lift and stand for the majority of shift.
• Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
• Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check (Criminal Background Check) within six months.

Responsibilities

• To prepare and deliver all foods for residents, guests and employees.
• Review menus and production sheets before cooking; serve meals attractively.
• Ensure proper food handling techniques are followed.
• Complete daily temperature audits for fridges and storerooms and record results.
• Prepare and serve foods for special diets as planned.
• Record substitutions on designated forms.
• Adhere to service times and budget constraints.
• Comply with provincial regulations and departmental policies.
• Participate in special occasion/ theme meal planning.
• Attend staff meetings and training.
• Respect Resident Rights and participate in Quality Improvement.
• Follow health and safety procedures and work in a role of trust with vulnerable adults.
