Senior Learning and Development Specialist
Introduction to the team:
Travel Partnerships and Advertising helps partners, including hotels, airlines, destination marketing organizations (DMOs) and more, deliver excellent traveler and B2B experiences. We drive growth for our partners and the Expedia Group marketplace through competitive supply, our leading advertising and travel media network and affiliate solutions.
The Learning & Development team at Expedia Cruises plays a pivotal role in empowering the success of our Franchisees, Managers, and Vacation Consultants. We collaborate closely with subject matter experts across departments—including Franchise Services, Marketing, Technology, Sales Enablement, Recruitment, and Franchise Performance Coaching—to design and deliver impactful learning assets that support system knowledge, sales performance, team growth. Our team leads the onboarding experience for new Franchisees and Managers, ensuring a strong start and alignment to their first-year performance goals. Additionally, we own the learning strategy and facilitation of learning for all Expedia Cruises events, ensuring every opportunity to learn is relevant, results-driven, and connected to our broader business goals.
In this role, you will be responsible for driving new Franchisee engagement on the Expedia Cruises Franchise System through project management of the onboarding learning plan and training curriculum. You will play a key role in enabling Franchisees to meet key benchmarks, in collaboration with other support departments such as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Franchise Performance Coaches, to ensure they can successful open and run their business in their first year. This role immerses itself into the world of the Franchise system and looks to translate complex information into easily understood training materials.
In addition to Franchisee Onboarding, this role requires you to collaborate with SMEs to develop and facilitate learning content that empowers Franchisees and Vacation Consultants to master new tools and systems as well as develop their sales and service skills. This role requires a blend of creativity, technical proficiency, and strong communication skills to succeed.
In this role, you will handle:
Franchisee Onboarding – 50%
Directly lead and coach new franchisee through their learning plans
Work within our Learning Management System to update training plans and track progress
Conduct training calls with Franchisee to set objectives, review progress and provide skill-based assessment and feedback
Provide status updates on Franchisee progress and achievement of objectives/milestones
Build relationships and collaborate with key teams within Expedia Cruises to support individual learning plans
Identify and communicate roadblocks to Manager, Learning and Development
Workshop Facilitation – 25%
Facilitate in-person and virtual workshops
Collaborate with SMEs to identify objectives and learning outcomes
Create and/or prepare workshop content and materials
Lead safe, engaging and inclusive workshops while managing group dynamics and varying levels of expertise
Foster active participation and assess participant understanding
Manage time effectively and adapt as needed
Collect feedback and make suggestions based on evaluations
Learning Content Development – 25%
Project manage and develop and/or curriculum that align with the organization's learning goals and objectives
Collaborate with the learning team and SMEs to identify training opportunities and gaps
Conduct needs analysis with subject matter experts, Franchisees and Vacation Consultants
Assist in the creation of learning content and partner with Instructional Designers to incorporate assessment exercises or knowledge checks to measure learner comprehension
Analyze learner feedback and assessment results to make continuous improvements
Review and edit the team’s content for accuracy and clarity
Experience and qualifications:
Proficient in planning, organization, and project management with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
Experienced in delivering training curriculum to adult learners
Demonstrated skills in group facilitation, coaching, and mentoring
Experience collaboratively working with internal departments, external stakeholders and MEs to identify training needs and develop resources
Sales leadership experience
Proven ability to build positive relationships across all levels and a team player with well-developed interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to simplify complex information and convey messages that are understood clearly by adopting a range of styles, tools and techniques appropriate to the audience and the nature of the information
Innovative thinking to design engaging and effective learning experiences
A keen eye for detail in content development and quality assurance
Results oriented with a strong desire to drive Franchisee sales growth and success
A background in a franchise environment or experience in the travel industry is a key asset
Proficient and comfortable with using technology applications
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Proficient using facilitation tools and Learning Management Systems
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
