Position Reporting To - Director, Human Resources
Summary/Objective

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Senior Human Resources Generalist serves as the primary HR contact for an assigned business unit. The position provides day-to-day guidance to leaders and employees across the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, workplace investigations, disability and accommodation management, health and safety, compensation administration and employee development. The Senior HR Generalist partners with business leaders to implement HR programs, ensure legislative and policy compliance, and support employee performance and business objectives.

Essential Functions
  • Provides timely guidance to leaders and employees on HR policies, programs, employment practices and workplace matters.
  • Coaches leaders on performance management, attendance, corrective action, conflict resolution and termination matters, escalating higher-risk issues to the Director, Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Conducts or supports fair, timely and confidential workplace investigations involving employee complaints, harassment, violence and other alleged policy violations; documents findings and provides recommendations.
  • Manages employee relations matters within the assigned business unit and works collaboratively with leaders and employees to achieve effective resolutions.
  • Executes the full-cycle recruitment process for assigned vacancies, including intake meetings, job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, selection support, reference checks and offer preparation.
  • Partners with hiring managers to identify the skills, experience and behavioural competencies required for vacancies and supports equitable, consistent selection decisions.
  • Coordinates pre-employment screening requirements and partners with hiring managers to develop and execute structured 90-day onboarding plans.
  • Conducts compensation research and provides recommendations that support market competitiveness and internal equity; administers approved salary and wage changes.
  • Supports workplace accident investigations and ensures required documentation, including WSIB Form 7 reporting, is completed accurately and within prescribed timelines.
  • Manages occupational and non-occupational disability, accommodation and return-to-work cases in partnership with employees, leaders, benefits providers and healthcare professionals.
  • Administers Short-Term and Long-Term Disability programs for the assigned business unit and maintains accurate, confidential case documentation.
  • Supports the delivery of health and safety programs, legislative compliance and preventive initiatives that contribute to a strong workplace safety culture.
  • Identifies skill and competency gaps and supports the development and delivery of onboarding, training and other HR program initiatives.
  • Supports career-development planning and coaches leaders to conduct meaningful development discussions and establish achievable employee development plans.
  • Implements total rewards, recognition, engagement and retention initiatives and ensures leaders and employees understand available programs.
  • Conducts exit interviews, identifies workforce trends and provides management with analysis and practical recommendations.
  • Maintains accurate employee information, employment records, job descriptions and case documentation within the HRIS and applicable filing systems.
  • Prepares employment letters, compensation-change documentation and other employee-related correspondence in accordance with approved practices.
  • Monitors HR metrics and identifies trends related to turnover, absenteeism, recruitment, employee relations and workforce planning.
  • Participates in HR and operational projects, including job evaluation, competency frameworks, culture and engagement initiatives, process improvements and HR systems enhancements.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable employment legislation and recommends updates to policies, practices and documentation as required.
  • Performs other related duties consistent with the responsibilities and level of the position.
Travel
  • Occasional local travel may be required to support assigned business locations.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Demonstrated judgment, discretion and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong employee-relations, investigation, conflict-resolution and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
  • Ability to build trusted partnerships and provide practical, balanced guidance to leaders and employees.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, active-listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong planning, organization and follow-through, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated initiative, accountability and ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Ability to support organizational change and facilitate the effective implementation of HR programs and processes.
Required Education and Experience
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related discipline.
  • CHRP designation completed or actively in progress.
  • Minimum five years of progressive HR generalist experience.
  • Demonstrated experience handling employee relations, workplace investigations, disability management, accommodation and return-to-work cases.
  • Experience supporting a distribution, manufacturing or multi-site workforce is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now or a comparable HRIS is preferred.
Language
  • English: Professional fluency (written and spoken) is required.
  • Spanish: Fluency or professional proficiency is highly preferred / a strong asset.
