Job summary

GEMTEC is expanding in Ontario and seeks a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead geotechnical analysis, reporting, and project delivery from our Sudbury office, with potential for other Ontario locations. The role requires PE in Ontario, 12+ years of experience, and strong client service skills.

We offer a full-time permanent position with a salary range of CAD 120,000–CAD 170,000, profit sharing, health benefits, RRSP matching, and generous vacation and sick days.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering.
• 12+ years geotechnical engineering experience.
• Excellent writing and verbal communication in English; organizational skills; ability to manage multiple assignments.

Responsibilities

Job description

GEMTEC is on the move and looking for entrepreneurs just like us to fuel our expansion in Ontario. Our presence in Ontario is expanding, and we are searching for various roles throughout the GTA, including a Senior Geotechnical Engineer within our Geotechnical Division based in our Sudbury office (Other office locations may be considered for the right candidate). You will be joining a dedicated and collaborative team of Engineers and Scientists focused on Geotechnical, Hydrogeological, Environmental, and Materials related projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the main point of contact for key clients on portfolios of large, interdisciplinary projects.
• Execute on geotechnical aspects of a variety of projects including writing proposals, field work, data analysis, preparing geotechnical design recommendations and writing geotechnical reports;
• Actively collaborate with Branch Managers on business planning and market strategy.
• Perform project management functions, including proposal preparation, budget estimation, scheduling, scope management, project summary report preparation, maintaining quality throughout the project, and implementing improvements.
• Collaborate with junior and intermediate staff to complete geotechnical analysis and reporting.
• Provide senior technical review on discipline related elements of projects ensuring technical excellence aligns with client needs.
• Mentor, train and supervise junior and intermediate staff.

• Work with engineers and scientists across various disciplines to design and implement innovative and cost effective solutions;
• Client management and consultation as required to manage projects and develop a client base;

Qualifications:

• Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering (Geological Engineering program may be suitable) from a recognized university.

• 12+ years of geotechnical engineering experience.

• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills (English), strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time in order to deliver quality work on time and on budget. Preference will be given to candidates with Ministry of Transportation foundation engineering project experience.

• Significant experience in geotechnical analysis, reporting, evaluations, and inspections.

• Experience with geotechnical software applications such as Slope/W, Seep/W, Sigma/W, Slide, Settle3D, FLAC, or similar.

• Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario.

• Be motivated to provide excellent client service and enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
