Job summary

GEMTEC is expanding in Ontario and seeks a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Sudbury office. Lead major interdisciplinary projects, mentor staff, and ensure high-quality geotechnical design and reporting.

The role emphasizes client management, collaboration across disciplines, and proactive business planning. Ontario PE license preferred; remote locations may be considered for the right candidate. Ontario-based responsibilities with strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering (Geological Engineering program may be suitable) from a recognized university.
• 12+ years of geotechnical engineering experience.
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills (English), strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple assignments.
• Significant experience in geotechnical analysis, reporting, evaluations, and inspections.
• Experience with geotechnical software such as Slope/W, Seep/W, Sigma/W, Slide, Settle3D, FLAC, or similar.
• Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario.
• Be motivated to provide excellent client service in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the main point of contact for key clients on portfolios of large, interdisciplinary projects.
• Execute on geotechnical aspects of projects including proposals, field work, data analysis, preparing geotechnical design recommendations and writing geotechnical reports.
• Collaborate with Branch Managers on business planning and market strategy.
• Perform project management functions including proposal preparation, budget estimation, scheduling, scope management and reporting.
• Mentor, train and supervise junior and intermediate staff.
• Provide senior technical review on discipline-related elements of projects to ensure technical excellence.
• Work with engineers and scientists across disciplines to design cost-effective solutions.
• Manage client relationships and develop a client base.

You will be joining a dedicated and collaborative team of Engineers and Scientists focused on Geotechnical, Hydrogeological, Environmental, and Materials related projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with junior and intermediate staff to complete geotechnical analysis and reporting.
• Provide senior technical review on discipline related elements of projects ensuring technical excellence aligns with client needs.
• Mentor, train and supervise junior and intermediate staff.
• Work with engineers and scientists across various disciplines to design and implement innovative and cost effective solutions;
• Client management and consultation asrequiredto manage projects and develop a clientbase;

Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with Ministry of Transportation foundation engineering project experience.
• Significant experiencein geotechnical analysis,reporting, evaluations, andinspections.
• Experience with geotechnical software applications such as Slope/W, Seep/W, Sigma/W,Slide,Settle3D, FLAC, or similar.
• Registered Professional Engineerin Ontario.
• Be motivated to provide excellent client service and enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
