Job summary

Egis Canada seeks a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead major infrastructure projects in Ontario. You will supervise a team of engineers, oversee design analysis, field programs and reports, and drive project scope, schedule and budgets.

Candidates should have 15+ years of consulting geotechnical experience, be licensed with PEO, and hold a graduate degree. Proficiency with Plaxis or GeoStudio is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Licensed member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) with minimum 15 years of consulting geotechnical experience.
  • Experience designing foundations for major infrastructure (airport, bridge, rail) in Ontario.
  • Strong knowledge of CFEM, CHBDC, OPSS, OBC and other relevant standards.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary project teams and managing on-site construction inspections.
  • Proven ability to mentor staff and manage client relationships across projects.

Responsibilities

  • Technical leadership of a team of geotechnical engineers on major infrastructure projects (airfield, rail, energy).
  • Oversee design analysis, field investigation plans and professional reports.
  • Manage geotechnical investigations and design assignments: scope, schedule, quality, safety, and cost.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines for proposals and projects.
  • Conduct site reviews during conceptual, investigation, and construction phases.
  • Engage with clients, regulators, and contractors; support business development and client relationships.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring on geotechnical design to staff.

As a part of the expansion of the Geotechnical Team, Egis is looking for a senior geotechnincal engineer with a focus on major infrastructure projects.

  • Technical leadership of a team of engineers working on airfield, rail and energy projects
  • Technical oversight of major projects, including supporting and conducting design analysis, field investigation plans and professional report writing.
  • Project management of geotechnical investigation and design assignments including responsibility for project scope, schedule, quality, safety, and cost control.
  • Liaise and collaborate with other disciplines within Egis on joint proposals and projects.
  • Conduct site reviews as needed during conceptual, investigation, and construction phases.
  • Liaise with clients, government and/or regulatory bodies as well as contractors.
  • Play an active role in business development activities and marketing by establishing and maintaining positive client relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and geotechnical design training to staff as required.
  • Licensed member of Professional Engineers Ontario with a minimum of 15years of consulting experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Demonstrated strong experience designing foundations for major infrastructure, airport, bridge and rail transit systems within Ontario, with a proven track record of successful project completion.
  • In-depth knowledge and extensive working experience with applicable regulations, codes, and guidelines such as CFEM, CHBDC, OPSS, OBC, and other relevant Canadian and international standards.
  • Demonstrated experience working with or managing multi-disciplinary project teams, including the ability to lead and motivate team members effectively.
  • Substantial previous construction inspection experience, including the ability to identify and resolve complex geotechnical issues on-site.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Possession of a Graduate Degree (Master\'s or PhD) in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering is highly desirable.
  • Proven project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and control budgets effectively.
  • Strong client management and interpersonal skills, with a track record of building and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated project experience working with various municipalities across Ontario, with preference given to previous experience within the GTHA.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software packages such as Plaxis, GeoStudio, or similar tools for advanced analysis and modelling.
  • Experience in preparing and delivering technical presentations, proposals, and reports to clients and at industry conferences.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with emerging trends and technologies in geotechnical engineering.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex geotechnical challenges.
  • Experience in mentoring and developing junior engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and professional growth within the team.
