Job description

Company Overview

Jaunt Air Mobility Canada is an aerospace and air mobility pioneer dedicated to the design, certification, and high-rate manufacturing of clean-technology VTOL aviation platforms. Operating as a core pillar of the AIRO Group’s Electric Air Mobility division, Jaunt Canada leverages world-class aerospace engineering and localized supply chains to deliver industry-leading transport solutions. Our current flagship program, the Jaunt JC250, is an advanced hybrid-electric, slowed-rotor VTOL cargo platform engineered for high-endurance, high-reliability Beyond Visual Line-of-Sight (BVLOS) logistics. Headquartered with a strong professional engineering and operational presence in Montreal and Mirabel, Quebec, Jaunt Canada is bridging the gap between abstract aerospace design and certified, real-world embedded implementation.

Position Overview

As a Level 3 Senior Flight Sciences Engineer, you are a core member of the vehicle engineering tier, responsible for owning the aerodynamic design, performance optimization, and handling qualities verification of the JC250 slowed-rotor platform. In this role, you will lead complex numerical analysis, analytical modeling, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) sizing routines to ensure the aircraft meets rigid stability and performance baselines across all operational regimes. You will span the full development lifecycle, supporting both preliminary multi-disciplinary trade studies and experimental flight test programs to mature the hybrid-electric vehicle.

Your responsibilities extend directly onto the test field, where you will plan wind tunnel validation campaigns, define mathematical aerodynamic equations for six degrees-of-freedom (6-DOF) simulations, and act as a flight test engineer responsible for real-time telemetry monitoring and airborne data reduction. By working directly at the intersection of flight controls, safety, and structures, you will analyze vehicle handling qualities during the critical aerodynamic transition between vertical rotor lift and forward wing-borne cruise flight, translating raw atmospheric test points into actionable vehicle design improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute comprehensive high-, mid-, and low-fidelity aerodynamic analyses utilizing multi-block computational fluid dynamics (CFD) packages and classical engineering layout utilities to size the main slowed-rotor assembly, wing-mounted forward propulsors, and fixed stabilizing vertical and horizontal tail surfaces.
  • Generate detailed operational aerodynamic load profiles, distribution vectors, and aerodynamic moment coefficients across fixed surfaces, flaperons, elevators, and rudders under worst-case flight envelopes, distributing these critical design parameters directly to the structural and airframe stress analysis teams for fatigue and margin-of-safety calculations.
  • Plan, define, and evaluate physical experimental test campaigns, including the end-to-end design, execution, and data reduction of scaled-model wind tunnel testing, as well as the tracking and performance evaluation of autonomous subscale prototype aircraft flight tests.
  • Serve as an operational flight test specialist on the ground and during real-time tracking loops, developing experimental flight test cards, authoring compliant airworthiness certification reports, and monitoring real-time vehicle telemetry streams to verify handling qualities and flight envelope protections
  • Collaborate closely within an integrated vehicle health and development environment alongside control laws, electrical propulsion, and structural design teams to blend complex parallel hybrid-electric powertrain dynamics, transient energy variations, and mechanical actuator loads seamlessly with nominal aircraft handling qualities.
Qualifications
  • Comprehensive background in vehicle aerodynamics, aircraft handling qualities analysis, or vertical lift performance evaluation.
  • Practical experience establishing and modifying equations for six degrees-of-freedom (6-DOF) flight simulation models or control law architectures.
  • Demonstrated history planning, executing, and reporting on physical wind tunnel testing or experimental prototype validation programs.
  • Direct exposure to flight test engineering practices, incorporating real-time telemetry monitoring or post-test processing of embedded data logs.
  • Familiarity with aerospace regulatory frameworks, airworthiness compliance verification paths, and drafting official certification documents.
  • Professional membership or eligibility for registration with a recognized regional engineering order (such as l’Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec).
Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline with a focused concentration on fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, or atmospheric flight mechanics.

Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Standing and sitting for extended periods of time,
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds in a safe and prudent manner,
  • Ability to work and communicate well with other employees and management, customers, visitors, vendors.
  • Ability to perform work utilizing manual dexterity of the hands,
  • Ability to push, pull, bend, stoop, reach above and below shoulders, and full use of upper extremities,
  • Ability to easily move through an approximately 25,000 square foot warehouse building,
  • Ability to read, write, and understand French,
  • Correctable vision and hearing.

This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive, and the employee may also be asked to perform other reasonably related job duties as assigned by their immediate supervisor as required. All employees may be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time as needed. The AIRO Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
