Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst – Capital to partner with corporate functions and manage the full capital accounting cycle from budgeting to reporting. The role is based at our Markham head office with a hybrid work model and close collaboration with Asset Management and Development teams.

The ideal candidate brings a CPA, 3+ years in finance, strong Excel and ERP experience (Workday preferred) and the ability to communicate clearly with executives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • CPA designation.
  • 3+ years of relevant post-graduate experience.
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to work with large data sets.
  • Experience with ERP systems; Workday preferred.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and strategic thinking.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work in a matrix management structure.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a business partner to corporate functions for capital accounting.
  • Manage full cycle of capital accounting: budgeting, forecasting, journal entries, depreciation and asset tracking.
  • Track project budgets and forecasts with Asset Management and Development teams.
  • Prepare capital-related materials for internal, external and board reporting.
  • Lead monthly capital review meetings with stakeholders to provide recommendations.
  • Drive process improvements and strengthen internal controls in capital management.

Job DescriptionReporting to the Manager of Capital, the Senior Financial Analyst – Capital will serve as a business partner to the various corporate functions. This role is responsible for managing the full cycle of capital accounting activities - including budgeting, forecasting, accurate and timely accounting and reporting, while ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.The ideal candidate will be relationship oriented, proactive, self-motivated, bring critical thinking, possess a high attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. This position will support their team towards the overall successful achievement of the team goals.This position will be based at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario. Extendicare offers a hybrid working environment.Key responsibilities include:Serve as a subject matter expert for the company related to the capital process and provide support to the businessPartner with Asset Management and Development team to track project budgets and forecasts, ensuring expenditures align with capital plansAssist in the development of capital budgets and forecast updatesAnalyze and provide commentary on monthly variances to budget and forecastManage the full accounting cycle for capital projects – from validating purchase orders, preparing journal entries to reconciliations and asset trackingMaintain asset subledger, ensuring timely recognition of assets, accurate classification, allocations and depreciation setupReview capital costs monthly, ensuring proper asset registration, in-service timing, and accurate derecognition when applicable.Prepare capital related materials for internal, external and board reportingConduct monthly capital review meetings with key internal stakeholders to ensure full visibility and provide actionable recommendationsManage special projects, ad-hoc analysis and prepare reports as requiredStrengthen internal controls, refine capital processes, and drive continuous improvementChampion best practices in capital management and serve as a trusted capital advisor across departmentsComplete other duties as assigned.What we’re looking for:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.3+ years of relevant post-graduate experience, accounting, or other similar finance rolesCPA designationStrong knowledge of Excel with the ability to work with large, complex data setsWorking accounting experience with ERP systems; knowledge of Workday preferredStrong problem solving, analytical and strategic thinking skills; can see the "big picture" in a complex business environmentAbility to clearly and confidently communicate written and verbal recommendationsHighly driven with a strong work ethic and commitment to excellenceComfortable working in a matrix management structure, engaging with both business unit leaders and corporate executivesAbility to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environmentWhat Extendicare has to offer:At Extendicare, we believe that working as a team creates an environment that allows us to reach our potential.
