Treasury Board Secretariat | Secrétariat du Conseil du Trésor is seeking a finance professional to support consolidation and financial reporting across Ontario's ministries and agencies. In this position, you'll work directly on consolidating financial information from ministries and government agencies, giving you a unique, central-agency perspective of the Public Accounts of Ontario process. As a finance professional who enjoys solving complex accounting issues and navigating tight timelines, you'll review and integrate financial data from across the OPS, support high-profile reporting deliverables, and deepen your understanding of how the province's financial story comes together.

About the job

As an integral part of the Consolidation, Consultation and Analysis Unit, you will:

  • provide expert accounting and financial reporting advice to government executives related to the consolidation of government agencies into the government reporting entity
  • develop accounting and financial reporting options to support initiatives and decision-making
  • coordinate research into Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards and recommendations
  • coordinate the preparation of the province's annual financial reporting requirements in accordance with PSAB standards, and provide leadership and support during the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario's annual audit of the Public Accounts of Ontario
  • lead various projects and participate in committees
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
  • You must hold a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and be able to provide proof prior to receiving a job offer
Financial and accounting knowledge

You have knowledge of:

  • generally accepted accounting and audit principles, practices, and methodologies
  • Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards and public sector accounting, reporting and consolidation practices
  • financial reporting functions, including how to prepare consolidated financial statements
  • complex consolidation and accrual accounting issues and practices
Analysis and problem solving skills
  • research financial issues, interpret accounting standards, and develop accounting policies or recommendations
  • analyze reports, benchmark data, and complex consolidation issues, including consolidated financial statements
  • independently resolve difficult issues and propose practical, viable solutionsintegrate accounting and financial reporting processes and systems
Project and process management skills
  • manage complex accounting and financial reporting projects from planning through delivery
  • coordinate consolidation and financial reporting activities across teams and systems
  • guide colleagues through changes to accounting, consolidation, or reporting requirements
  • improve financial reporting processes and ensure alignment with best practices
Communication and collaboration skills
  • communicate clearly with colleagues, senior leaders, auditors, and external partners
  • prepare clear, concise, and well-organized reports, briefings, policies, instructions, and procedures
  • develop and deliver presentations on financial and accounting matters, including to senior leaders
  • use MS Office tools (including Word, Excel, etc.) and work effectively with large-scale accounting systems, databases, programs, and reporting modules
