Job summary

Ontario Public Service in Toronto is seeking a Senior Policy Advisor to shape the future of pensions and retirement income security for Ontarians. You will lead policy analysis, develop policy options, and advise on legislation and regulations to inform decision-making.

The role involves collaboration with stakeholders, preparing briefings, Cabinet submissions and other materials for senior officials, and supporting the budget and policy reform processes.

Join a team that tackles complex, high-impact challenges affecting the retirement income security of millions of Ontarians. As a Senior Policy Advisor in the Pension Policy Branch, you will conduct complex policy analysis, provide strategic advice on retirement income security and pension matters, and collaborate with stakeholders to advance policy reforms, support legislation and regulations, and prepare briefings, Cabinet submissions and other materials to inform decision-making.

You will:
  • support pension reform and innovation in Ontario by developing policy options and implementing policy initiatives through pension legislation and regulations
  • prepare briefing materials and policy recommendations for the Minister of Finance
  • support the Ontario Budget process

You can:

  • demonstrate analytical, research and quantitative skills in developing policy recommendations
  • demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills applicable to policy development
  • interpret data to support policy development
  • research relevant legislation and regulations for Ontario and other jurisdictions to support policy development
Policy Development Expertise

You have:

  • substantial experience with public policy development
  • knowledge of government structures and policy approval processes
  • the ability to interpret and apply knowledge of Ontario legislation and regulations to develop and implement policy
  • knowledge of federal and provincial regulations and legislation (including Ontario's Pension Benefits Act) that govern pension plans

Note: Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial regulations and legislation is not required to be successful in this competition. This knowledge can be acquired through on-the-job learning.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

You can:

  • demonstrate interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members
  • develop and maintain contacts in the public and private sectors
  • effectively brief management on complex policy issues
  • develop well-written and well-organized briefing materials, Cabinet submissions and correspondence on complex or technical policy issues
Project Management and Leadership Skills

You have:

  • demonstrated the ability to manage multiple policy issues simultaneously, anticipate and mitigate risks, and advance complex policy initiatives.
  • the ability to independently plan, prioritize, and complete complex assignments while meeting tight deadlines.
  • experience leading and coordinating work on complex, technical, and high-profile policy issues.
