Job summary

Ontario Public Service in North Bay and Sudbury is seeking a Financial Operations Representative for temporary assignments up to 12 months. You will process payments, invoices, refunds, and support cross-ministry financial operations while delivering customer service to external suppliers and OPS clients.

The role emphasizes accuracy, problem-solving, and collaboration with ministries. Salary is $28.14–$32.82 per hour under the OPSEU collective agreement, with eligibility for bilingual positions

In this position, you'll support reliable financial operations, including creating payments, invoices, and refunds, while working closely with ministries and clients across government and providing customer service to external suppliers and customers of the OPS. It's a unique opportunity to build trusted partnerships, strengthen your financial expertise, and contribute to improvements that enhance service delivery.
Please note: The number of positions to be filled has not yet been determined. This competition will be used to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates to fill temporary unilingual full-time and part-time positions, as well as bilingual part-time positions, within the eighteen (18) months following the closing date of the job posting.

About the job

You will:

  • complete financial processing reviews and reconcile financial reports.

Financial knowledge and experience

You have:

  • knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • ability to process financial transactions in line with corporate policies and recommend process improvements.
  • knowledge of arithmetic methods to perform calculations.
  • experience using computerized financial systems and spreadsheet software (e.g. Excel) to reformat and analyze data, use formulas, etc.
  • ability to obtain knowledge of ministries and their programs to respond and/or redirect enquiries from managers and staff.
Analytical and evaluative skills
  • You have analytical skills and attention to detail to identify and investigate discrepancies.
  • You demonstrate sound judgment to assess accounts, take appropriate action, and recommend procedural improvements.
Communication and interpersonal skills

You have:

  • communication and interpersonal skills to explain procedures and deal with ministry clients, staff and external suppliers.
  • tact and diplomacy when communicating with client mangers and staff.
  • ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • proven customer service skills.
