The ideal candidate holds a CPA/CCA designation with at least five years of accounting experience, preferably in the public sector or financial services. This is a full-time, in-office position located in Toronto.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

Building Ontario Fund (BOF) is seeking a full-time Senior Financial Accountant. (This job posting represents an existing vacancy.)

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Accountable for maintaining the BOF’s financial records, including general ledger accounts and financial statements in accordance with Canadian generally accepted accounting principles (PSAB), tax legislation and other relevant policies and directives.

  • Manage financial records, including general ledger accounts and financial statements, for external and internal reporting purposes.
  • Review financial documents and transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Accountable for monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing activities.
  • Complete account reconciliations, as required
  • Support preparation of external financial statements, related note disclosures and actively support external audits
  • Perform financial analysis and report accurate financial data to support business decisions.
  • Accountable for statutory filings, such as HST rebate, etc. accurately and timely
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by effective analysis and enquiries
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances and opportunities for improvement and provide insights to management for decision-making.
  • Manage treasury related issues, where applicable
  • Ensure that the BOF complies with all financial regulations, including tax laws, accounting standards and reporting requirements
  • Recommends and implements process optimization initiatives to improve the timeliness, accuracy and effectiveness of financial reports.
  • Work across BOF’s various internal and external stakeholders to provide service and support financial management activities and ensure financial information is reported completely and accurately.
  • Accountable for the timely preparation of regulatory and other Ministry reports, as needed.
  • Assist with ERP implementation and other system enhancements, as needed
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to more junior accounting team members
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Chartered Professional Accountant/Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Certified Accountants (CCA) Designation required
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in accounting or finance.
  • Experience in public sector or financial services/investment space, preferred but not required.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong technical knowledge in tax and accounting.
  • Knowledge of government financial and accounting principles (PSAB), policies and processes as well as financial reporting processes and agency accountability.
  • Strong knowledge and skills in financial systems such as QuickBooks or other ERP systems an asset.
  • Knowledge of investment funds and reporting requirements.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical skills to synthesize complex financial models and formulas into understandable reports and summaries.
  • Interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to document analysis, liaise with all levels of staff; prepare reports and presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise strong attention to detail, as well as strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial data analysis and reporting.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).

As part of the Ontario Public Service, BOF requires employees to work in-office five (5) days/week. We believe in-person presence and collaboration strengthens culture and service delivery.

The expected salary for this role is CA$96,000 - $120,000 for candidates who meet the stated qualifications.
