Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting or similar field.
  • Professional accountant designation preferred.
  • 10+ years of financial reporting/budgeting experience in oil and gas.
  • Joint Venture asset experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of IFRS for upstream oil and gas and strong analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Budgeting, forecasting and stewardship reporting for assigned assets.
  • Prepare and validate annual work programs and budgets; variance analyses.
  • Load and maintain SAP cost centers and IM hierarchy; monitor costs.
  • Provide financial presentations for leadership with insights.
  • Support contractual and commercial negotiations as required.

PetroChina Canada is recruiting for a Senior FinanceRepresentative to join the Financial Performance & Analysis team.

Reportingto the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis the Senior FinanceRepresentative will be the key focal point and liaison between the financedepartment and the asset team, and for financial insight and oversight. This role is responsible for developing andsupporting financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and managementreporting. Also, the incumbent will beengaged in both commercial and contractual issues related to the relevant assetarea. This position will contribute to driving financial analysis across assetbusiness lines to identify solutions to improve financial and operatingperformance.

This position is a full-time, in office position located in Calgary.

Accountabilities:

The accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Budgeting,Analysis and Stewardship Reporting:
  • Supportpreparation and validation of annual work program & budget and monthlyforecasts for assigned asset and functional areas. Challenge assumptions frombusiness to ensure accuracy of budgets.
  • Ensuresufficient documentation and approval of annual budget along with communicationand distribution of approved budget programs to the business units.
  • Establish,maintain and recommend changes to Investment Management Hierarchy (ExpendituresCoding), WBS and cost center hierarchy, within the SAP system.
  • Loadcapital budget in SAP to correct IM Hierarchy and releases budget funds uponapproval of AFE.
  • Monitoroperating costs, understanding key cost drivers providing through analysis toidentify solutions to improve operating and financial performance.
  • Advise thebusiness on costs included in capital, exploration expense, research anddevelopment and abandonment AFEs/projects, as well as operating expenses.
  • Preparemonthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc financial presentations for seniorleadership meetings, providing insightful variance analysis of actual vs.budget.
  • Proactivelyanalyze business performance and key performance metrics to provide analytical,strategic and financial support.
  • Coordinateand prepare detailed operating and functional view of financial statements andkey performance indicators, along with other financial information, asrequired.
  • Work withboth business and finance teams to identify and record relevant monthlyaccounting entries.
  • AFEManagement Support and Process Improvements:
  • Support business unit projects in reviewing AFEs, SAP work breakdownstructure, budget change requests, AFE supplements.
  • Prepare AFE status reports to enable prompt analysis of costs by AFE andproactively identify potential cost overruns.
  • Ensure compliance with AFE standards.
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of the Finance team byproactively identifying and sharing process improvement opportunities.
  • Support the maintenance of all documentation for budget managementpolicies, procedures, standards and templates and updates when necessary foroperations.
  • Business Asset Support:
  • Ensure familiarity with existing contracts and agreements and provideoversight to ensure contractual terms are being fully utilized and considered
  • Utilize financial, joint venture and contractual skills and knowledge tosafeguard the company’s assets, while identifying opportunities to maximizeasset value
  • Employ negotiation skills to support the asset team
  • Engage in contractual and commercial negotiations as required

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting or similar from an accreditededucational institution
  • Professional accountant designation preferred, along with aworking knowledge of IFRS for upstream oil and gas
  • 10+years’ relevant financial reporting/budgeting experience within an oil and gasexploration, development and operations environment
  • Joint Venture asset experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of oil and gasoperating/management reporting requirements and proven ability to delivertimely and insightful reports
  • Strong experience with joint ventureagreements
  • Proven influencing and negotiationskills
  • Ability to effectively work in amulti-disciplinary team environment, and with individuals at all levels withinan organization
  • Hands-on experience with SAP anasset
  • Strong interpersonal andcommunication skills (written and oral); experience in effectivelycommunicating key data, including presentations to both operations managementand executive leaders
  • Keen analytic, organization and problem-solvingskills
