Job summary

Douglas Homes in Calgary, AB is seeking a Senior Estimator/Team Lead to guide the estimating team, review take-offs, budgets, and pricing from drawings and contracts. You will mentor staff and ensure accuracy to protect project margins.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in residential construction estimating, strong leadership, excellent communication with trades, and proficiency in Excel, Revit, AutoCAD, and related tools. Experience with timelines, costs, and value engineering is preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in residential construction estimating or related role.
• Previous experience in a senior, lead, or supervisory capacity preferred.
• Strong understanding of residential construction practices, materials, and trade scopes.
• Decision-making under pressure and ownership of outcomes.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building with internal teams and external trade partners.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the estimating team, providing guidance, mentorship, and oversight on estimating activities.
• Prepare and review accurate quantity take-offs, budgets, and pricing from drawings, specifications, and contracts.
• Provide technical support and guidance on construction methods, scope, pricing, and constructability.
• Review job costs throughout the build, identify variances and cost risks to protect margins.
• Maintain and update global options pricing and items for accuracy and consistency.
• Collaborate with Sales to support options, upgrades, and custom pricing requests.
• Negotiate pricing with trades and suppliers.
• Review and reconcile invoices against PO's, contracts, and approved scopes.
• Work with Construction, Selections, Drafting, Sales, Purchasing, and trades to align scope and budgets.
• Act as escalation point for pricing, scope, costing, and estimating issues.

What You’ll Do

Lead and support the estimating team, providing guidance, mentorship, and oversight on estimating activities.

Prepare and review accuratequantity take-offs, budgets, and pricingfrom drawings, specifications, and contracts.

Provide technical support and guidance onconstruction methods, scope, pricing, and constructability.

What You Bring

5+ years of experience in residential construction estimatingor a related construction role.

Previous experience in asenior, lead, or supervisory capacityis preferred.

Strong understanding ofresidential construction practices, materials, and trade scopes.

Confidentdecision-maker and problem solverwho can take ownership and make decisions under pressure.

Strongcommunication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with both internal teams and external trade partners.

Comfortableleading others, providing direction, and holding team members accountable.

Highly organized with strongtime-management skillsand the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Detail-oriented and proactive, with a strong commitment to accuracy and follow-through.

Proficient inExcel, Word, Adobe, and Outlook.

Experience withBluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD, Timberline, or Constellation NX or Newstaris an asset.

Civil Engineering Technologist or Architectural Technologistbackground is an asset.
