Job summary

Torus Talent seeks a Senior Estimator for a growing Nanaimo, BC construction firm. You will lead the estimating effort, mentor a Junior Estimator, and collaborate with project managers and subcontractors to develop accurate bids.

Responsibilities include reviewing drawings and specs, performing quantity takeoffs with Excel and Bluebeam, and targeting cost-saving opportunities while maintaining rigorous timelines. A strong reading of drawings and pricing knowledge is essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of estimating experience with a general contractor or subcontractor.
• Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, Building Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
• Experience preparing estimates across a wide range of project sizes and levels of complexity.
• Proficiency with Excel and Bluebeam.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, subcontractor scopes, and pricing.
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, communication, and time-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
• A Project Manager with substantial estimating and preconstruction experience may also be considered.

• Collaborate with project managers, clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers throughout the preconstruction process.
• Support project handovers from estimating to operations and provide ongoing estimating assistance when required.
• Mentor and provide guidance to the Junior Estimator.
• Maintain accurate historical pricing information and contribute to the ongoing improvement of estimating processes.
