Job summary

Pomerleau is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator within its Civil & Infrastructure division to support Earthworks projects. You will help secure bids and drive project success by applying advanced estimating techniques and robust knowledge of materials, labor, and equipment costs.

You will work on large-scale projects—from millions to billions—across sewer and water mains, wind farms, dams, and roadworks, collaborating with proposal teams and clients to optimize bid strategies and

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ relevant experience in estimating in the ICI construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of excavation and formwork.
• Experience leading and mentoring junior team members.
• Proficient with estimation software.

Responsibilities

• Perform quantitative evaluation of materials and manpower for the bid and verify quantities.
• Prepare quantity summaries according to plans and specs and organize by trade sections.
• Identify project-specific prices for labor, equipment and materials.
• Grow and maintain relationships with trade partners, consultants and clients to achieve project goals.
• Review supplier and subcontractor amounts for alignment with bid documents.
• Coordinate parties involved in design-build estimation.
• Assist in finding new subcontractors, suppliers, and providers.
• Suggest and quantify bid document alternatives to cut costs.
• Mentor junior team members on best practices.

As an experienced Senior Estimator within Pomerleau’s Civil & Infrastructure division, you will play a key role at the heart of the Earthworks business unit. You will support the growth of both new and ongoing projects by challenging industry standards through your expertise and strong technical knowledge.

You will be involved in large-scale projects, ranging from $1.5 million to over $1 billion, across a diverse range of areas of expertise, including sewer and water mains, wind farms, dams, and roadworks, as well as other projects that may be delivered in synergy with the organization’s various business units.

Working closely with our proposal team and a wide range of clients, you will actively contribute to securing competitive bids and ensuring the overall success of projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform a quantitative evaluation of materials and manpower required for the work deemed decisive and verify the quantities given by the estimators.
• Prepare the summary of quantities according to the plans and specs and by sorting them according to the standardized sections and functions of the trades involved.
• Identify project-specific prices related to key items including labor, equipment and materials.
• Grow and maintain strong relationships with trade partners, consultants and clients to achieve project goals and vision.
• Thoroughly review all received amounts from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring their alignment with bid documents during compilation and bid closings.
• Take part in and/or coordinate the various parties involved in the estimation of a design-build project.
• Support in the search for new contacts subcontractors, suppliers, and work providers.
• Suggest and quantify alternatives to bid documents to reduce construction costs of bid projects.
• Act as a role model and mentor for junior team members, providing coaching and guidance on best practices and trade secrets.

Qualifications

• A University Degree or College Diploma in Construction project estimation or a combination of education and industry experience.
• 8+ years’ relevant experience in estimating in the ICI construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of excavation and formwork.
• Previous experience leading and mentoring junior team members.
• Strong experience working with estimation software.
