Job summary

Pomerleau in Lévis is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to support large-scale civil and infrastructure projects, spanning from $1.5 million to over $1 billion. You will collaborate with the proposals team, suppliers and clients to secure bids and drive cost-effective outcomes.

The role requires 8+ years in estimating within the ICI construction sector, a degree or diploma in construction project estimation, and strong knowledge of excavation, formwork, and estimation software.

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ relevant experience in estimating in the ICI construction industry.
• Degree or diploma in construction project estimation or equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of excavation and formwork.
• Experience leading and mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities

• Perform quantitative evaluation of materials and manpower and verify quantities.
• Prepare quantities summaries aligned with plans, specs and trade sections.
• Identify project-specific prices for labor, equipment and materials.
• Maintain relationships with trade partners, consultants and clients to reach goals.
• Review supplier/subcontractor amounts against bid documents during closings.
• Coordinate estimation for design-build projects with involved parties.
• Assist in finding new subcontractors, suppliers and providers.
• Suggest cost-saving bid alternatives and quantify impact.
• Serve as a role model and mentor to junior teammates.

As an experienced Senior Estimator in the Civil & Infrastructure Operations team at Pomerleau Construction, you will support new and ongoing project growth and challenge industry standards with your trade-driven expertise and knowledge. Working on large-scale building and infrastructure projects – ranging from $1.5 million to upwards of $1 billion – you will work closely with our proposals team and various client groups to secure bids and ensure project success.

What you will do

• Perform a quantitative evaluation of materials and manpower required for the work deemed decisive and verify the quantities given by the estimators.
• Prepare the summary of quantities according to the plans and specs and by sorting them according to the standardized sections and functions of the trades involved.
• Identify project-specific prices related to key items including labor, equipment and materials.
• Grow and maintain strong relationships with trade partners, consultants and clients to achieve project goals and vision.
• Thoroughly review all received amounts from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring their alignment with bid documents during compilation and bid closings.
• Take part in and/or coordinate the various parties involved in the estimation of a design-build project.
• Support in the search for new contacts subcontractors, suppliers, and work providers.
• Suggest and quantify alternatives to bid documents to reduce construction costs of bid projects.
• Act as a role model and mentor for your junior team members, providing coaching and guidance on best practices and trade secrets.

This role could be for you if you have

• A University Degree or College Diploma in Construction project estimation or a combination of education and industry experience.
• 8+ years’ relevant experience in estimating in the ICI construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of excavation and formwork.
• Previous experience leading and mentoring junior team members.
• Strong experience working with estimation software.
