Job summary

Pomerleau is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join the Building Operations team, supporting growth on large-scale building and infrastructure projects across Canada. You will collaborate with the proposals team and client groups to secure bids and help ensure project success.

Qualifications

• University degree or college diploma in construction project estimation.
• 10+ years of estimating experience in the ICI construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of excavation and formwork.

Responsibilities

• Perform quantitative evaluation of materials and manpower for bid decisives.
• Prepare quantity summaries aligned with plans, specs and trade sections.
• Identify project-specific prices for labor, equipment and materials.
• Grow and maintain relationships with trade partners, consultants and clients.
• Review supplier/subcontractor bids to ensure alignment with bid documents.
• Coordinate estimation efforts for design-build projects.
• Support in sourcing new subcontractors, suppliers and providers.

As an experienced Senior Estimator in the Building Operations team at Pomerleau Construction, you will support new and ongoing project growth and challenge industry standards with your trade-driven expertise and knowledge. Working on large-scale building and infrastructure projects – ranging from $1.5 million to upwards of $1 billion – you will work closely with our proposals team and various client groups to secure bids and ensure project success.

What you will do

• Perform a quantitative evaluation of materials and manpower required for the work deemed decisive and verify the quantities given by the estimators.


• Prepare the summary of quantities according to the plans and specs and by sorting them according to the standardized sections and functions of the trades involved.


• Identify project-specific prices related to key items including labor, equipment and materials.


• Grow and maintain strong relationships with trade partners, consultants and clients to achieve project goals and vision.


• Thoroughly review all received amounts from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring their alignment with bid documents during compilation and bid closings.


• Take part in and/or coordinate the various parties involved in the estimation of a design-build project.


• Support in the search for new contacts subcontractors, suppliers, and work providers.


• Suggest and quantify alternatives to bid documents to reduce construction costs of bid projects.


• Act as a role model and mentor for your junior team members, providing coaching and guidance on best practices and trade secrets.

This role could be for you if you have

• A University Degree or College Diploma in Construction project estimation or a combination of education and industry experience.


• 10+ years’ relevant experience in estimating in the ICI construction industry.


• Strong knowledge of excavation and formwork.


• Previous experience leading and mentoring junior team members.


• Strong experience working with estimation software.
