Job summary

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is seeking a Senior Engineer in Renewable Energy Programs to lead the corporate transition for renewable energy infrastructure. You will oversee design, construction, installation, operation, maintenance and renewal of energy systems to support a zero-carbon future across eBus, BESS and solar PV initiatives.

What You Will Do

As a member of the Renewable Energy Programs Department (REP), you will report to the Manager, Renewable Energy Engineering. Your role will involve providing technical oversight for REP, which manages approximately $1 billion in programming. This includes the design, construction, installation, operation, maintenance, and renewal of TTC’s energy infrastructure aimed at supporting a zero-carbon future. Key components of this infrastructure include eBus and other fleet charging systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV systems, and associated systems that support TTC’s Green Fleet Plan, Green Facilities, and other renewable energy and decarbonization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Oversight: Ensure the technical integrity of both capital projects and operational activities.


• Risk Management: Identify technical risks and propose effective risk mitigation strategies.


• Project Coordination: Identify project interdependencies (e.g., fleet plans, proposed construction projects) and develop comprehensive technical coordination plans.


• Quality Assurance: Oversee the quality and timeliness of construction, commissioning and operational submittals and witness major equipment/system testing to ensure compliance with TTC requirements.


• Safety Support: Assist the project delivery team with construction safety plans as needed.


• Documentation: Review: Review and approve technical reports, testing results, and other documentation.


• Failure Investigation: Collaborate with REP staff and other TTC stakeholders/experts to investigate complex failures.


• Issue Resolution: Address operational issues with service providers and/or original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and ensure successful resolution.


• Procedure Review: Evaluate existing operating procedures, test plans, and maintenance plans, recommending changes to maintain safety and quality standards in light of new REP systems.


• Procedure Development: Oversee and review the creation of new operating procedures, test plans, and maintenance plans for novel REP systems.
