Job summary

Vantage Analytics is seeking a Senior Engineer to build features and integrations with partner systems, while mentoring the team. Expect heavy API work with external data and scalable, reliable services.

You will review SQL and Django ORM changes, guide performance decisions, and ensure on-time delivery. This remote-first role is based in Toronto, with North American scope and a strong emphasis on architecture and code quality.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software development experience with strong design and architecture.
• Advanced SQL skills beyond ORM, including indexing and complex query tuning.
• Strong Python and Django experience building production services and APIs.
• Gatekeeper for database performance in code reviews and debugging.
• Experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with CircleCI, Docker, and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP).
• Proven ability to troubleshoot production code using logs, metrics, and traces.
• Mentoring and knowledge sharing with peers.
• Experience with B2B API integrations.
• Nice to have: Celery, RabbitMQ, OTEL; CS-related degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own application and database performance, review PRs for query costs and indexing.
• Own external API integrations and data exchange with partner connectors.
• Design and ship backend features in Python/Django with low latency.
• Diagnose production issues, lead debugging, improve observability.
• Identify performance risks and coach the team to prevent regressions.
• Maintain automated tests and clear documentation for safe changes.
• Mentor engineers through pairing and design reviews.
• Contribute to architectural discussions for scalable solutions.
