Job summary

• 5+ years administering Linux (RHEL) in enterprise production environments.

• Experience administering load balancing and reverse proxy technologies (HAProxy, NGINX, etc.).
• Experience with infrastructure automation, scripting, CI/CD tooling, and Git-based workflows.

Job description

Senior DevOps Engineer is responsible for the reliability, security, scalability, automation, and operational support of Bison’s enterprise integration platforms and containerized runtime environments. This role partners closely with Integration Engineering, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Security, and Infrastructure Operations teams to deliver stable, secure, and highly available platform services that enable engineering teams to build and deploy applications safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will design, administer, automate, and support Linux-based container platforms, CI/CD services, observability tooling, load balancing, storage infrastructure, and platform resiliency capabilities supporting hybrid on-premises and SaaS-connected environments.

Specific Responsibilities include: Platform Infrastructure & Operations: Administer and support Linux-based infrastructure platforms, primarily Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), hosted within Bison’s hybrid private cloud environment. Manage container runtime and orchestration platforms including Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, and Portainer. Support platform lifecycle activities including patching, upgrades, hardening, vulnerability remediation, performance optimization, and operational maintenance. Support highly available multi-node environments including clustering, node resiliency, failover operations, and disaster recovery readiness. Administer and support shared platform services including load balancing, ingress, certificates, reverse proxy services, distributed storage, and runtime networking. Support the organization’s transition from Docker Swarm to Kubernetes CI/CD, Automation & Platform Enablement: Maintain and support CI/CD platform services including build runners/agents, deployment tooling, and deployment automation services. Support Infrastructure-as-Code, Git-based workflows, and automation-first operational practices. Collaborate with engineering teams on deployment standards, rollback strategies, environment promotion workflows, and operational best practices. Observability, Security & Resilience: Deploy and maintain monitoring, logging, observability, and telemetry platforms including Datadog, OpenTelemetry, and related tooling. Maintain operational dashboards, alerting strategies, uptime visibility, and platform health monitoring standards. Ensure platform operations align with Bison IT Security standards including patch governance, secrets management, segmentation controls, operational hardening, and change management practices. Participate in operational troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities. Collaboration & Operational Support: Partner closely with Engineering teams supporting enterprise integration platforms and runtime services. Support infrastructure-level identity integration, authentication services, and operational access governance. Coordinate with Infrastructure, Security, Engineering, and external support vendors during incidents, outages, upgrades, and recovery activities. Participate in on-call escalation and emergency support rotation supporting critical platform infrastructure.

Our Ideal Candidate will possess:

• 5+ years administering Linux (preferably RHEL) in enterprise production environments.
• Hands-on experience with container orchestration platforms including Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, or similar technologies.
• Experience supporting highly available multi-node infrastructure environments and distributed systems.
• Experience administering load balancing and reverse proxy technologies such as HAProxy, NGINX, or equivalent platforms.
• Experience with infrastructure automation, scripting, CI/CD tooling, and Git-based operational workflows.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across Linux, networking, containers, virtualization, storage, and distributed platform services.
• Experience with observability and monitoring platforms such as Datadog, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent tooling.
• Understanding of vulnerability management, secrets management, security hardening, and operational governance practices.
• Experience working collaboratively across Infrastructure, Security, and Engineering teams.
• Experience supporting enterprise integration platforms, API gateways, event brokers, or hybrid integration runtimes is considered an asset.
• Experience with technologies such as Gravitee, Solace, Groundplex, Kafka, Debezium, Ceph, or similar platforms is considered an asset.
